OMG!!! What a huge difference between using the pump on vacation and MDI's!!! I can't even describe how great this was. The closest to not being a Diabetic. I am not kidding. We disconnected for pool time and beach time (about one hour to 1.5 hours). Even left the pump safely in the hotel room so as not to get it hot or sandy!!! Checked BG before and then after. The AFTER was low due to physical activity (walking on the beach and of course non stop swimming in the pool). No need to even bolus when we re-attached! Then for meals, snacks and finding ice cream stores...no problem...push a button and have then chocolate Gelato!!! Or have a little fries and then that piece of pie for later in the meal (2 whole button pushes!!!) BG's were for the most part right on target and even a bit low due to the activities!!! He even turned down the pump by 40% for putt-putt golf!!! :D ....So all in all, did 4 days on the pump on vacation and even did a site change and we didn't miss a beat. Will never live without pump, EVER, until a cure!!!

Blessings to all!!!

Thanks. Yes, the most important thing I remembered was to bring the Frio bag for the one vial of insulin that we needed. I did notice perhaps due to the heat as well as exercise (well, not too much exercise since this was during putt-putt golf) but he did tend to go low more often. We had to turn down the basal by 30-50% for some of the "attached" smaller activities (biking, later ...once we learned more mini golfing!) . But the major ones (tennis, pool) we just completely detached. I didn't let him get into the Jacuzzi with the infusion set patch on. Didn't dare take a chance with it melting or something. Oh and Gatorade is a must for the hot weather and tennis....he played an hour of tennis, went in at 140 BG and came out (detached) with 103 BG and that was with sipping Gatorade!!! :o

Oh and we packed the FRIO bag into our large cooler along with the drinks during the road trip and it did just fine!!
