With the recall of the Medtronic Quick-sets, there is a scarcity of Medtronic infusion sets in general. We normally use Silhouette - 381s.
I'm thinking ahead and I'm considering that we may need to consider going to shots for my 8yo boy.

Does anyone have an opinion as to which long acting insulin is better? Levemir or Lantus

We use Apidra for the pump, so if we went to shots, could we mix either Levemir or Lantus with Apidra?

We used Lantus up to about a month ago, then we switched to Levemir. I don't see any difference so far.

When we were on Lantus, we mixed it with Novolog for her dinner shot and didn't have any problems. However, I do know that there are lots of studies out there saying you shouldn't mix Lantus with a fast-acting insulin. I did see in the one Type 1 book I have (can't think of the name right now) that it was "okay" to mix with Novolog but not Humalog. Not sure about Apridra. My daughter got a very small amount of Lantus, so that might be one reason why we never had any problems.

I would check with your endo just to make sure it would be okay to mix.

I use Levemir as backup basal insulin if the pump should have issues or I am doing an activity not friendly to pumps. Levemir is taken twice a day as it has 12 hour coverage. I am allergic to Lantus and it was very erratic in it's action for me.
