Do you know what is very very sad!!!???
I am the only one in my town that has Diabetes! And I am also the only one in my school with diabetes! I was diagnosed on January 17th 2004. I stayed in the hospital for 3 days and 2 nights! I was really scared when I found out that I had to do NEEDLES every day! When I found out about the insulin pump I told my mom that I really wanted it so badley! So on January17th 2006 I started the Cozmo Pump. I was so happy when I found out that I wouldn't have to be doing Needles every day now. Only every 3 days! For school I did a prestation on the Deltec Cozmo Insulin Pump. The cozmo pump is a water tight pump. Meaning that you can wear it in the water for a little while. But I don't recomend it!! It is the best thing that has ever happened to me! It is exciting because this year I am in grade 8 and I am graduating into highschool so I won't have to do needles during highschool and on school trips! I am the only one with diabetes in our school but our school is VERY VERY VERY VERY small! There are only 50-52 kids in our school!!!

Congrats on your pump! I just got mine in december. I absolutely love it. I am on the animas 1250. Wow, I can't imagine being the only one in your entire town to be diabetic. I know for a fact that I am *not*. However, I only know 2-3 others personally that have diabetes - type 1, that is. And I never see any of them regularly.

Keep up the good work! The pump is SO wonderful. I totally agree with you that 1 shot every 3 days is a MUCH better alternative. That was one of the main deciding factors for me, I was taking from 5-8 shots a day before my pump. Yes, it's absolutely wonderful.

Congrats on starting the pump! I grew up in a small town as well. Our high school had about 120 people, and I didn't know anyone with Diabetes. So...when my son was dx'd, I didn't really know anything about it. It must be hard being the only person in town with Diabetes, but it sounds like you have everything under control. It's great that you're doing presentations and educating others!

Austin is the only one in his school district. The school actually hired a nurse to be at his school full time in case he needs her. He just found out last week that his baseball coach is also diabetic and a pumper (Austin just started pumping 3/27/06) Austin is sooooo excited to meet his new coach so he has someone like him nearby.:D

for the longest time i was the only pne at my school and when I was in the 7th or maybe 8th grade a kid in kindergarden found out he was too so I got to be his coach and teach him all that I knew at that time. It was one of the things that made me want to be an endo.
