Did anyone see the episode of A Place of Our Own about kids and diabetes that was on recently? I'm not a regular viewer of the show, but I watched it because I like to see what the media is saying about diabetes (and okay because I'm a masochist).

It had its good moments and its bad moments. Beginning: bad. The host said they were going to talk about how to prevent diabetes in children, while they showed clips of children...that were Type 1. This show is for parents of really young children. So every time they talked about how your kids could get diabetes *right now* (and implying Type 2), I cringed.

Good: the whole middle of the show. In fact, it was great! They had Dr. Fran Kaufman on and a video of a woman and her four-year-old daughter, Emma, with Type 1. I thought it was someone on here, but maybe not? Dr. Kaufman talked a lot about the differences between Type 1 and Type 2 and for once, it wasn't cut in a way to sound inaccurate. Excellent!

Bad: after Dr. Kaufman finished speaking, the host ran through facts about diabetes, and she said being overweight and sedentery increases the risk of both Type 1 and Type 2. Nooooooo!

So overall, it was really great, especially compared to other shows I've seen. Still, fact checking would be nice.
