View Full Version : I'm tired of the honeymoon!

While Emily has needed basal changes (and different Lantus doses), both up and down since diagnosis, she was usually good for 4-6 weeks after.

The past 3 weeks have been hell around here! First, she was running high a lot. Endo changed her basal around some and it was good for only 3 days. Then she started having a lot of lows. We have slowly decreased her basal almost nightly since then and she's still having several lows each night! We are now at 1/4th the nighttime basal she was on 3 weeks ago (and actually needed at that time). :cwds:

Sad thing is, I just know we'll be upping the basal again slowly, within a week. I'm running on fumes, here!

The CDE thinks her pancreas is still producing insulin, but it appears to be random intervals at this point. I'm not sure if that signifies the end of the honeymoon or not. But I just want things to stay more even-keeled for at least a few days!

She gets a C-peptide drawn in May with her yearly labs. I never thought I'd want to see the result be zero, but I'm thinking that wouldn't be such a bad thing now.

I just want some SLEEP! I sure wish I could hire someone to take over the night shift for 2 nights so I could sleep uninterrupted. I'm trading off with DH, but he works full-time and needs to concentrate more during the day than I do at this point. I'm just a walking zombie!:(

I guess I missed your post! It's bizarre that so many kids are needing less insulin this week!

We've always had a lot of variability from day to day to, but never any signs of insulin production before. I think if Emma's not spiking after meals she must be getting some help from her own pancreas... I just don't understand.
Last night I bolused later than normal for dinner, and she did spike to about 250, (only spike she had all day) but within 30 minutes of her bolus she was 100 and dropping, with 3/4 of the bolus still active!!
This morning I gave her 1/2 of her breakfast insulin right before she started eating, and her blood sugar is dropping while she's eating. That never happens to her.

Her basal needs seem to be the same, and she's been perfectly stable overnight, (knock on wood... I should never say such a thing!), but her I:C ratios are all off. Thank God I have those alarms, because I would never expect her to be low during and immediately after eating.
I would love to see a C peptide on her right now because I'm very suspicious!

I hope you get some sleep! Maybe all the kids will level off again... at least for a couple of days!

I hope you were able to sleep a little more. :cwds: I so understand those nights and weeks. The unexplainable bgs combined with fear and lack of sleep are rough.
