I am looking for early adopters to try a new product I’ve developed, http://mysugars.com. http://mysugars.com is a place to record all your blood sugars in a hassle-free manner and spot trends within your data online. The project started as a solution to my frustration with log books and the lack of a free, easy spot for diabetics to go to safely store all their data and learn more about their medical history.

The entire site is designed to be as easy to use as possible, and I think that the ability to record sugars via text message will greatly appeal to young diabetics.

The site also lets you tag recordings to discover the situations in your life that impact your sugar levels. I often find myself wondering if there is a definitive correlation between, say, traveling and elevated blood sugars. With http://mysugars.com I just tag all of the relative sugars with "travel" and later on I can evaluate the statistical differences between "travel" sugars and ordinary mg/dl levels.

Diabetics should have a spot to quickly record sugars once and forget about any log book or complicated import...and their data should always be readily available from any computer with an internet connection.

http://mysugars.com is a free solution to this need, and I would love to hear others’ reactions to the service. The product is being actively developed and any of your suggestions will weigh heavily on upcoming features.

I will be checking this message board for feedback, although there are plenty of open avenues to voice your input on http://mysugars.com.

Thank you for your help!

I tried it, and it seems like a neat concept, specially on the go. Is there a way to post b/g at a different time then current, and does it record carbs, and insulin as well?

Thanks for sharing this with us! Jamie

Thanks! Yeah, just click on the date/time and a calendar will pop up that lets you change the recording date. (Smart date interpreter/input that let's you type things like "yesterday at 5pm" is coming soon).

Carbs and insulin are currently not recorded, although technically anything can be recorded w/ the "tags" concept. For example, whenever I just get out of the gym I record my sugar as, say, "104 postworkout" ... and then later on I can compare the "postworkout" sugar statistics with all the rest.

Let me know if you have any more suggestions.

It is pretty nice.

Here is my wish list. So far I have not come accross any software that can do all these:

* ability to upload old data (e.g. txt or cvs file)
* customizable day cut off: it is nice that it is not midnight, but personally would prefer 5 or 6am.
* ability to select which days to include in a graph
- weekend vs. weekday, but also customizable choices. For example my son does not go to nursery school on Fridays, so they are more like weekends than weekdays. I'd want the ability to include Fridays in the weekend analysis and exclude them from weekdays.
- exclude any set of days. For example: the other day we had a site problem, so pm numbers were crazy. This is not normal and when looking for typical patterns I want this day excluded.
* choice of units (mmol/l, mg/dl) and ability to convert back and forth

Good luck

Great feedback. Thank you.

Ability to upload old data: It's on the way.
customizable day cutoff, select which days to include, weekend vs weekday: Great ideas. As I accomplish some of the more pressing needs I will be incorporating these features.
Exclude days: Good call. This will be relatively easy to implement via use of the "Tag" ability already in mysugars.com
Choice of uinits: True, true. It's now on the list!

Ben, I think it holds a great deal of promise!

Can you create log looking displays?

Our endo likes to read 'across' the page for breakfast, lunch, and dinner so that he can spot trends easily.

so dates would be on the left hand side and Breakfast, Lunch, dinner, Evening numbers would go across the page.

Example:

Breakfast Lunch Dinner Evening
1/01/07 100 167 88 205
1/02/07 88 105 169 75
1/03/07 155 134 123 97

Also, of course importing would be great. I import like 90% of my son's BG's from his Accu-check monitor but then he uses other types of monitors for School or going out and I add those in by hand later. But it would save a lot of work to at least be able to import some of these numbers up front.

Another important featuer would be setting low and high target threshholds and then during the graphing or log display have the high' lets say color coded to red, normal readings let's say green, and lows perhaps another color (Yellow?).

Pie Charts too?

Thanks!
Maria

Maria,

More great feedback! Thank you.

I will certainly work on breakfast/lunch/dinner/evening log looking displays.

Did you happen to click on the "Hourly" graphs under "History"? Although this lacks the breakfast/lunch/dinner labels, it provides a very easy way to see trends across the hours of the day (and you can choose different date ranges to include in the calculation).

Color coded sugars w/ personalized thresholds are on the way!

Pie charts sound like a great idea. Any specific groups of data that you'd like to see organized in a pie chart?

Again, thank you. It's great to get feedback from (hopefully) future users. :)

Best,

Ben

Hi Ben,

yeah, I saw the History/hourly but it is still running down the page (time vertical) as opposed to across the page (horizontal). I work with One Touch software through Lifescan and they have "meal zones" for want of a better work. You set up the times in the preferences. For example: Lunch you can set to 12pm-2pm, Dinner, 6pm-8pm. Etc. Then when it imports the bg's from the monitor straight into this program it self populates the lunch and dinner columns with the numbers that were taken on the monitor during that time space. So for example, my child takes his bg at around 12:30pm for lunch, and then at around 6:30pm for dinner, it will import the numbers into those columns automatically because it read the time stamp through the monitor and mapped to the correct column.

Doctors love to see trends by column....like why are all the lunch numbers in the past week running high! Then they adjust the pump basal or carb ratios just for that time of day. etc.

Pie charts, can be broken down to 7-day bg average for example and then the pie "sliced" into how many bg's are above target (red slice on the chart), within range (yellow slice on the chart), below targe ...hypo...(another color for the pie slice). You can then trend let's say 14 day, 30 day, 6 months...and have pies reflect overall percentages of high, middle and low targets. Again One Touch does this and it really helps to see that for example for 14 day average, we had 68% above target but then during the latest 14 day trending, because of tweaking basals the current 14 day average is now lowered to 55% on the pie chart. See?

Hope this helps a bit. But you are doing great and the next step will be to get paying banners on your site with the prominant diabetes companies. : )

Meal zones sound like a good call. I personally like the horizontal graph makes hourly trends (like morning, afternoon, post-dinner) relatively easy to spot instead of horizontal lists of numbers, but I can see where both would be useful!

Those pie chart ideas are exciting and I'm going to start working on them soon.

Thank you again, you've helped a lot!
