We went to our local pharmacy to get refills and were told we had to wait 10 more days to get our refills:eek:  . We have 3 days left and what do I do? I read on the bottom of the sheet it says that they may be filled 10 more times before 12/9/07 however they are making me wait. I know that I can buy syringes and strips over the counter but they are expensive. Any suggestions?

Your insurance probably dictates that you can only fill it every 30 days. How many test strips do you get each month? I would call the doctor and ask if they would increase the number per month so you don't run into this problem. Our endo generally writes out 200 test strips/month for most people, but if you ask, they will write it for 300/month. I'm sure they would write us more if we needed it, too.

Definitely call the doctor. No one wants a 2 1/2 year old to not be able to test.

This happens to us all the time with testing strips. The problem is that the pharmacist should be able to "override" this for things such as diabetic supplies that should not be limited to a certain amount. Sometimes they have been able to "push it thru" and other times they tell me sorry! We had to appeal to our insurance to get them to pay for more strips per month. You have to first make sure your prescriptions are written for more than you need, say testing script should be for testing 8-10 x's per day. We use way more than this! That allows 300/month by Doctors orders. Insulin should be written for 5x's per day etc. You should be able to call your endo even after hours and have them call with a new prescription that states an increased amount needed. The pharmacy has more ability than they lead you to believe, somtimes you just have to find the right person. I am still not sure how all this works sometimes, as I always get conflicting answers too! But I have never taken no for an answer and someone is always willing to pursue approval whether it be the pharmacist or the endo. This is so frustrating. We should be granted a medal for the bizillion things that are frustrating with this stupid disease. Not even prescriptions are easy!
