Hello all.

So last week by big brother came to town and we threw an AWESOME surprise party for my moms 60th birthday. The next day my brother (who was staying with us) was sick and running a fever, we sent him to stay at my moms to limit Zeb's exposure. Well so far Zeb is okay but I have been sick as H*ll since late friday and confirmed strep yesterday. Got the antibiotic shot and already doing a bit better. Now Eric is taking Raven (big sister) to the doc for strep test as she has all the signs. So now I am scared stiff Zebs gonna get it too. Dakota (big brother) seems fine so far. I guess all I can do is keep a close eye on them but what I would really like to do is move far away from everyone and never be exposed to any germs ever again. Short of that looks like I've got a few tense days looking for symptoms and hoping we don't all get it one by one.

I know overuse of antibiotics is a big problem and our pedi is good about only prescribing when truly needed but this is the first time I wish I could get my hands on some now so that if Zeb needs them I could start them right away. There should be some sort of low dose antibiotic used as a preventive for high risk kids when exposed to something like strep.

Hope you all are well, gotta do some reading and catching up as it hurt to look at the t.v. or computer for the last few days. Wish us luck and NO MORE STREP.

My older son had strep last year and was sick for a week with a high-ish fever (he doesn't have diabetes) and none of the rest of us got it. I hope you have the same luck for your D son!

So sorry, i understand completely.
Haley's big sister Taylor has strep(confirmed on Firday). She is now on amoxicillian. Taylor never ran a fever, just a sore throat that wouldn't go away. But the added bonus is that Haley is just now finshing up her tam-a-flu(oh joy!!!! ) Let's all hope that none of us get it, I would rather have a broken arm than strep throat(I'm the biggest baby when it comes to a sore throat:( )

Ugggg!! We've had strep at our house, too. My husband had it two weeks ago. Then on a hunch and with my throat a bit sore, I took Teagan in with me to get a throat culture. Low and behold, she had it but I didn't. Thankfully, the provider we saw put me on Amoxicillin, too. On Saturday our 15 yr old complained of a sore throat and guess what.....she has strep too!

I'm just crossing my fingers that Teagan doesn't get it again.....

Good luck on getting some sort of med.

Emma's had it twice this winter... Ugh!

Did you ask your pedi if he would put her on an antibiotic? Mine will definitely treat Emma if anyone else in the house gets it, just to be safe. He even gave me antibiotics the last she had it because I had a very sore throat already, saved me a trip to the doctor!

BTW, the rapid strep culture in the office has come back negative on her before even when she did have strep. They did a 3 day culture just to be sure and it was positive. Makes me wonder how many they miss it in the office!

Oh I hope he doesn't get it. Hunter had strep 4 times last year and no probs as far as D was concerned. Just a fever and sore throat, then the swab and antibiotics. I'm way less scared of strep than I am of a stomach virus! :)

Thanks for the good wishes everyone. My 9yo dd was positive for strep but shes been on antibiotic for 24 hours and is feeling good so back to school with her tomorrow. The boys are still a toss up, I think well be back at the pedi tomorrow to get them tested. (Unless of course they will call in a script for me) Zeb has a nasty sounding cough and some nasty high blood sugars on and off all day and last night so something is going on with him. Just to confuse things my dh has a nasty cold but no signs of strep so maybe thats what Zeb's got. So far we haven't seen ketones so thats good but I kinda wish they would either get sick or be well so at least we will know for sure.

To add to the stress Zeb is scheduled for a celiac biopsy first thing friday morning which will have to be moved if it is strep. I hope we can just get it over with so I don't have to keep thinking about it.

Okay, I hope this makes some sorta sense my brain is still foggy from being sick. Gotta go do a sight change.

Thanks again-Robyn
