At about 5 pm we had a 3.8:eek:...then just now a 4.0!:eek: Both centered in our town, Yorba Linda, CA. I've felt a lot of earthquakes before, but when they are this close, it's totally different, much more pronounced, and loud. So of course, both kids are scared to go to bed and all of the pets are hiding and scared. We'll be fine, but what an evening.

Hope everything is okay and the kids and pets settle down. My brother used to live in Yorba Linda years ago.

I had a feeling that was going to happen especially with the weather changing so much. We haven't felt them, I'm surprised. Stay safe hopefully that is it for the night.

Nothing up this way yet. I wouldn't doubt it if we had at least one by the end of the weekend. I agree ~ the weather is bringing them on! Hopefully you guys will be able to get some rest tonight!
The WEATHER is causing earthquakes?! Fascinating.

Well, that's what many of us Southern Californian's have noticed over the years, though I believe the scientists say there is no correlation. When it gets suddenly very hot, we call that "earthquake weather" because we have had many earthquakes during or right after those sudden hot spells. We had a hot spell earlier this week. Probably sounds a little whacky to those outside of earthquake country, but we all start thinking about quakes when it's hot.

I live in the Ohio Valley and we had an earthquake this morning around 9:45. At first they said the epicenter was somewhere outside of Columbus and on the news this evening they say it was really close to us in Gallia County Ohio, a 3.4. The kids think it is the coolest thing. They are running tests out on the main road about 3 miles from our house. I couldn't imagine being in California where you get these all the time. You all stay safe.
We do have a new lesson for science next week :D

Wow, that must be a rare event in Ohio. These have been so dramatic and loud, they really are much more frightening when you are right on top of the epicenter. When we are 10+ miles from the epicenter, they have a more "gentle" rolling motion. We are fine, but we felt about 4 after-shocks today. One of our cats is still fairly nervous about any noises.

Its extremely rare as far as I know, never felt one before. It was just a quick jolt that kind of rattled the house for a second and spooked our horse a little. The epicenter was about 20 miles or so from us. They have brought in a big sysmatic(sp?) rig and the kids say there are cables and equipment all up and down the main road.
