View Full Version : I think I've finally developed the ultimate CGM spreadsheet.

I've been trying to work out a way to track my CGM, meter BG, insulin, carbs & protein in some sort of visually intuitive chart and I think I've finally worked it out. This site doesn't allow users to upload Excel files so here is a link to it: http://davisxa.googlepages.com/cgmtrackingspreadsheet

the spreadsheet clearly demonstrates your virtuosity in Excel.
whu dont you use ParadigmPal or CareLink?

Wow! Thats a lot of detail, I'll bet that took some time!
I'll play with it, it's probably great for when your trying to fix problems.
I do love that on carelink most of what I need to see is already there w/o having to input anything, but it's sometimes bothers me that there's no record of what she ate, only how many carbs.

Hey EmmasMom, have you figured out how to input carb intake into the pump without bolusing (e.g. to correct a low) and have it still show up in CareLink? B/c if you try to do it with the bolus wizard and you hit 0.0 for a blous you get the little beep beeeeep-beep thing that means the action is canceled. I am trying to figure that out (that was actually my whole frustration with the Carelink thing that led to the spreadsheet).

"Virtuosity" - that's hilarious. ParadigmPal is a program that records you pump settings ONLY. Carelink did not have the reports I wanted. I wanted to see my insulin, carbs, and BG [I]at the same time[I] because I'm trying to recalculate by basal, carb ratio, insulin sensitivity etc. I've been a bad diabetic for a long time and now with the CGM I'm trying to set everything straight. Carelink only has a few reports and no ability to customize them. I think Animas has the best software - but no CGM integrated.

Thanks for sharing your tool, it looks great. I love excel myself and can't think without it, so I will enjoy playing with it.
We are on MDI, not the pump and I will looking at your Basal/Bolus ratio. Is that normal to have such a high basal rate in comparison to your boluses? Just curious...

I'm not really sure if it's normal; still trying to figure everything out and get myself all programmed...

There is nothing normal about diabetes and it definitely varies by person to person. I know the starting point when determining you ratio is to begin with 50/50, then based up on results and basal testing, you adjust that number. You may end up 60/40, 55/45, or something else, but it is within a certain range of 50/50. That being said, I sometimes question whether the Lantus dose we use is the right ratio for my daughter.
Keep me posted how you progress and if you fine tune your basal/bolus. Maybe 80/20 is what you need! Good luck!

Maybe the reason it seems odd to you is because I'm not using Lantus - I'm on an insulin pump, pumping Humalog 24/7. Also, as an adult, my insuling requirements may be different from your daughter's.
With pump therapy you usually start out by fasting for a day or so at a time in order to figure out your basal rates, and then start trying to figure out your carb ratios and insulin sensitivity and whatnot.

We found Pumping Insulin 4th Ed. very helpful with all this: http://www.diabetesnet.com/ishop/product_info.php?cPath=58&products_id=691&osCsid=cbb488a588b752d148b84f5c0160f0b0

Your tool is great. I have been struggling with something similar for a while. My current biggest problem is how to get the data to the appropirate format easily. How do you get the hourly total boluses and lay out the basal info by the hour as well?
I mean, is there a way without tonn of manual work?
Thanks.
