DH, Elizabeth and I had were rear-ended on the hwy right in front of the house!
There was a car between us that got smashed really bad. We were all okay, but the van got dented pretty bad in the back and won't open up. Elizabeth was terrified-she cried and cried. I was shaking for awhile myself. Our daughter drove up just seconds after it happened and it scared her too.We took Elizabeth to the ER for observation, but everything was okay. Her blood glucose did shoot up to 415! I had to give her a Lantus shot out in the van while we were waiting for the police since it was time.

When the nurse saw Elizabeth was type 1 (Her medical ID) she asked me if I checked her blood sugar in the morning???? I said,"No, sometimes 10 times a day!" She was going to check it with their stuff, but I quickly volunteered to use ours.

A lesson I learned is to take Lantus with you.

Yikee! So sorry. Glad you all didn't have any major physical injuries, but this does shake you up no doubt. So many have been involved in car accidents this year.

I am glad you are all ok. Isn't there some statistic about how most accidents happen so close to home?

Accidents are horrible, whether you're at fault or not.
I'm still having treatment from ours last May!

So glad you're all okay. I had an accident taking the kids to school last year. Some guy ran the light. I actually felt sorry for the guy; he felt so horrible for hitting a pregnant woman with 3 kids in the back! Good thing you had the Lantus with you. Waiting for the police can take a LONG time....

When the EMT told us we should go to the ER, Elizabeth immediately cried, and he said, "don't worry honey, you won't have to get any shots.":)

Don't blame her 1 bit! I refused to go when we had ours! Saw my own doc the next time he was in(4 days later) since the only obvious injury was to my shoulder/neck/back. Those injuries don't always show all that is wrong till after the shock wears off!
