Hi my name is Claire and I am currently in my final year at university. I am studying a web design course and for my major project I am designing a website for teenagers about diabetes. I really want the site to be fun and informative. I would really appreciate it if you could answer a few questions about diabetes to help me design the best and most appealing site possible.

I am designing a website for teenagers with diabetes because I was diagnosed with diabetes when I was 19 and found that there was a lot of information to digest and I wanted to design a site that allow you to find out all the information you need but also be fun and interesting.

Thanks

Claire B

I'm 18.

Today marks five months since I was diagnosed with diabetes.

Although I enjoy what is available, there appears to be a dearth of information about a number of topics such as:
History. I want to know about all of the diabetes treatments that have been around in the last eighty years. The different insulins that have been available, not just drug company info about current popular ones.
Science. I want some not so basics about how the body works. About when ketones are normal and when they're not, how high blood sugar actually affects me, how insulin actually affects my body's access to sugar and what that means- which part of my body relies on sugar the most? How do hemoglobin cells bind and how is hemoglobin measured? What were the various insulin absorption deals made out of?
Six months ago, when I looked on diabetes web sites, including this one, for symptoms, I concluded that I was not symptomatic of diabetes because the symptoms were simply listed. It was not explained that certain symptoms would show up after others, or what they came from; I assumed that since I did not have fruity breath, was seventeen and underweight, since I was suffering already from starvation and showing way more symptoms than were listed, that I could not have diabetes.

Exciting, appealing.... nah not usually. I don't know that they need to be.

We've got good forums. See diabetesteentalk.com
What we could use is content, maybe games, layout. I dunno. Maybe diabetes comics.

Talking to other diabetics online is therapeutic, but it is sometimes useful as well.

I spend a lot of time online. Maybe 20 hours per week. I take an online course.
