I am a 26 year old diabetic for four years now. I wanted to fly airplanes or scuba dive for a living but I cant because of med quals for both professions. Should I lie to get in or look for work in a similar field. If so what field is similar to this email sm51119@yahoo.com
You really can't lie about having diabetes, especially for jobs that require medical qualifications.
You can fly by the way -- just not as a commercial pilot.

While I respect the laws that only non-diabetics can fly commercial airplanes (ESPECIALLY when I'm flying), is there truly a justified reason for this? A tightly controlled diabetic is probably in better health than any of the current pilots, or so I'd like to believe.
I'm not saying to lie on your application. However, consider fighting the regulations that diabetics cannot fly. That would put you and your health under close scrutiny, but imagine being the first diabetic to fly a commercial flight! That would be awesome.
And honestly, I don't believe it's impossible. Although, admittedly, I'll bet the journey will be tremendously difficult!
If that is truly what YOU want - pursue it with zeal.

I have to agree with this, maybe the laws around this should be re-evaluateded... I mean, all people have to eat, diabetics too. Especially with technologies such as a pump and lantus, what is the big difference? Maybe they could use a continuous blood glucose meter for a week to prove that the blood sugars are well controlled, or something. I can fully understand and respect the needs of not hypos/hypers whilst flying, but cant there be a way for a diabetic to fly?
