Where do you keep your goat at night so the coyotes don't eat it? Seriously. I mean you can't bring them in like the dog.
My SIL has a barn for the goats:)
On the roof.. ;)

In Door County, Wisconsin they keep their goats on the roof... maybe thinking the coyotes and other nasty critters can't get them up there....

Dh said I can't keep the goats on the roof. The question came up because while house hunting today, we saw at least one place where I could actually have my goat. I've always wanted a goat. I don't know. :) But of course there was no outbuilding for the goat, so I'd have to work that out. Do they mind the outbuilding? Should you have two goats so they don't get lonely?
I also want a great dane. Not a clue where to get one. The only thing I've found available here are pit bulls and rottweilers - neither of which float my boat.
But I do know where to get goats. lol.

That is so funny!! I have always wanted a goat too. I would like to have the little pygmy goats or maybe the fainting goats, they are just so cute. So what kind are you getting?
As for the Great Dane's, I had a friend who had one, and she said that even though they are huge they really should be indoor pets--I was like . The one she had thought he was a lap dog and everytime I sat down on the couch he tried to sit in my lap.

Either pygmy or fainting. That's what I say too. lol. And I am fine with a great dane in the house. They're so goofy.

LOL! I was starting to think -- Powhatan? I could see me now with goats at the foot of the bed. Dh won't even let them on the roof. I'm pretty sure the foot of the bed would be out too.
I don't like coyotes. And there are lots here. Worry me a bit. However, I have never seen a roadrunner here. Think they're all at Teddi's place.

:D Thanks for being a bit nutty:D Makes me feel less lonely:eek:
Great Danes are...well...great! They do look goofy but they are totally adorable. A bit on the big side though:D Like the Irish Wolfshound.
I'd love to get a St. Bernard. I think I was one in a previous life.
My DH would love to have geese running around the yard, because he says they are adorable (guys never say adorable, so that was really strange:eek:).
Anyway, pictures please of your goat...and do you have a name yet? You need to make a poll!:D
Have fun goat-hunting, so to speak.

.
The people down the street from us have a great dane. He's huge, but a loveable lug. The owner has a convertable and the dog sits in the front seat with a baseball hat on! The most hysterical thing you ever saw.
The people around the corner from us have 2 goats, they got one of those little sheds from ShedsUSA to keep them in.

One of my older brothers lives in down state Illinois and the forest on his property is full of coyotes so much so that our Aunt and Uncle that live down the road wont leave their house to go to the barn without a high powered rifle in hand because they don't want the coyotes any where near their horses. My brother has 2 goats that he has in what I can only describe as a really big dog house surrounded by a chain link fence and his goats have never had a problem with the coyotes.
Word of warning if you intend to let the goats roam free every now and then is that they either will eat anything or at least try to eat anything. My BIL had a goat once that he let roam around one day while he was setting up a new pool, all of a sudden the assembly instructions booklet came up missing. I just happened to spot the goat which by that time had already eaten half the booklet.

My DH loves great danes but they are a little bit more than I can afford here. I would love to get him one. I had goats when I was little. I even named one puddles because this is what he did in the back seat of my dads truck when we were bringing him home. We kept them in the pen with the chickens. We didn't have any coyotes just florida panthers around but didn't have a problem.

Oh those coyotes in IL are no joke. We had them when we lived there. Did a number on a raccoon. Ew. The coyotes there are different than those here. As I recall they were very large and yellow rather than small and brown like the ones here. These will mess you up too, but I was scared to death when I saw one there. Friends tried to convince me I needed a rifle too because they were all over the property at night.
We did have horses out back, but the coyotes never gave them any trouble.

I don't think I could deal with coyotes! We have racoons, possums and such and occasionally you hear of a bear wandering around. There have been some 'sightings' of lions or coyotes in Chesterfield but no real proof from what I hear.

Are they litter box trained?
Absolutely NOT! Its just luck that you can't see poop scattered behind her. We don't let her in usually, but we'd been out for the afternoon and came home to find her sitting happily on the carpet. I've got to remember to shut the doors

Are they litter box trained? I have some serious thoughts going through my head at the moment thinking that if it is possible to litter box train a goat, I may get a small one and keep it inside at night..
If you figure out how to litter box train a goat, my dh is going to have a fit.

We have LOTSA coyotes and our neighbors have goats. ANy little enclosed shed will keep them safe. The challenge is what to do with them the rest of the time! fencing is near impossible since they're such great jumpers and tethering poses it's own problems (how many times/day do you want to untangle a goat).

They coyotes where my bro lives have gotten bolder through the years and keep coming closer to the house. I haven't actually seen one yet but you can hear them "yipping" in the woods loud and clear when the sun goes down and to make matters worse is that the forest on the property gets so dark at night that you can hardly see your hand in front of your face unless you have a flashlight.
My Aunt and Uncle that live down the road from my bro have raised/bred purebred Arab horses for as long as I can remember and with the investment they have they don't want to take any chances plus they don't want to risk their own safety while tending their horses. I was a bit amused when I first found out about it because I found it hard to envision my 70+ year old Aunt toting a 30/30 scoped rifle.
