How many of you use generic lancets?

When we went to the doc on Friday the nurse was telling us that sometimes it is cheaper to buy certain supplies OTC rather than have our prescription plan pay for it and us pay the co-pay. When I was in Rite-Aid the other day I noticed they have their own brand of lancets and they are like $6 a box of 100. Right now we pay $35 for 2 boxes. It would even be cheaper to buy the name brand OTC rather than our co-pay.

We don't use generic lancets because our cde told us that they hurt more. I think it was because of the teflon coating that the generics didn't have. That info was given in 2005, maybe its different now.

Usually if the actual cost is less that what your copay is, your pharmacy should be charging the actual cost of the lancets, not the more expensive copay. I've had this happen many times -- the prescription was only $8 and my copay was $10. I paid the $8. The copay is only if the prescription is MORE than the copay. Please question your pharmacy on their practices if they are charging you more than the actual cost of the prescription.

We use bd lancets for our Freestyle lancet device. They are much cheaper then the freestyle lancets. About $6 a box if I recall correctly. Our insurance doesn't cover lancets, like Brenda said because it is under our co-pay. I have also tried the rite-aid alcohol wipes because they were cheaper but I prefer the bd cause they are thicker.

hmm, the BD lancets fit into the free style lancet device? I, for some reason, figured that the lancet had to go with the correct lancet device.. but they must be all the same size, huh.. how is the freestyle lancet.. its so much smaller.. than the other lancet..

The freestyle lancet device is our preferred lancet so far. *edited to add that we use 33g bd as well* :cwds:

At our pharmacy we can buy BD 33g lancets for $6 and some change for 100. Generics may be cheaper but if they don't come in a small enough gauge then they are going to hurt, and wear out fingers quicker. I wont buy below 30 for Julia. For some reason our pharmacy tech thought that the smaller the number, the smaller the lancet. She gave us a box of the pharmacy brand to try, thinking that they would be so much smaller, and more comfy. It was really sweet of her, but it took a while for me to figure out why she kept trying to push the store brand which was a 27g.

Our insurance covers lancets at 100%, so we've never given it a whole lot of thought. But I have used just about every kind of lancet there is, and I don't recall ever noticing a substantial difference. I'm sure that the key difference is that generics will probably dull faster and thus have to be changed more often. I've also been able to put any lancet into just about any lancing device.

We also use the thin (33G) BD lancet with a FreeStyle meter.

Someone is now recommending us the Accu-check Multiclix (see also http://www.childrenwithdiabetes.com/d_06_2af.htm )

The drum design is not particularly interesting for us, the only consideration is the pain and healing. I understand that the Multiclix (30G) is not as thin as the BD.

Is this so, and if so can it be that the thicker one hurts less?

Finally, is the actual needle in the Multiclix that same as in the Softclix, the difference being the drum design?

Stacey seems to like the bd lancet better she said it dose not hurt near as bad as some of the store brands. i have a box of 30 gage lancets that I got from one of our aunts, we keep the for back up incase we run out. But the bd ones all the way!
