So, what do you wish the meter, tester, pump, syringe, glucagon, etc would have?
I would like the meter to tell me "Good job, you Supermom you!" in a very seductive way:rolleyes: when BG is in range.
If it's high, I would like a soft voice to gently remind me that S**T happens, but that tomorrow is another day.
If it's low, I would like for the meter to have a built-in cake gel spray.
What about you?
I like this thread Paula. I also have a few suggestions for some upgrades to my diabetes care items:
inside the red glucagon case would be a painless shot that could put your BS right into range no matter what (the Mary Poppins)
Glucose tabs would give you a whole meal in one piece of candy but of course it would still be only 4 carbs (the Willy Wonka)
Lancing device that doubles as a glass cutter, detonator and tire gauge (the James Bond)

or lancing device with a pen in it.

How about some kind of parent monitor that reports what the child is eating when away from home? Matt had a trip to the movies last week that sent his numbers into the stratosphere.

I'm sure most if not all of you can relate to this but Justin has more meters than he knows what to do with. With that in mind I wish meters could do more than just measure BS and do something else. I think it would be cool if old or unused meters could be used for say a memory storage device for a computer like a USB flash drive or better yet an MP3 player.

I wish meters would have a calculator function...since we always have a meter w/ us...

I'd love a meter with a build in flashlight that shines just enough light to see the drop of blood in the middle of the night. But the good job you supermom feature would be nice as well. :D
How bout a meter that can tell you, you have X hours of sleep before her BG is going to do something really wonky.

Good one! Sure would make counting carbs and dosing a lot easier.
The mp3 player suggestion is a good one too. A couple of days ago, Matt was listening to his iPod while texting, pump hanging from his belt. It would have eliminated one device.

A light that illuminate the strip and finger for those of us who wear glasses. I don't take time to put my glasses on when check bg at night.

An I-Pod like device with phone/GPS/camera/messaging/music/meter/alarm clock/docking station that uploads numbers to computer. You could set the meter in the docking station, and it would have a button that tells you what to do with the reading and announce it is a calm, soothing voice. "Your number is 36. Eat a fast-acting source of carbs such as 3 glucose tabs (or whatever you program). Set the timer (on the docking station) for 15 minutes. Wait for the beep. When you hear the beep, retest. If your blood sugar is above 70 (or whatever), eat a 15 gram long-acting carb such as peanut butter and crackers. etc." If your number is too high, it would tell you how to proceed. It would have a panic button for sick day instructions (very calm voice with that one). If would have another button for glucagon instructions as you follow along step by step. The phone could be programmed to automatically and simultaneously make an automated call to your emergency contact people (relative, neighbor, 911, etc) to alert them that you need help. I can dream...

I'm all for the flashlight! I usually have to turn on the light and take a chance on waking the 2 yr old sister - that's never fun....or i have to wake her up enough to walk into the living room so we don't disturb the "sleeping cub". But one thing, my girl never complains---she such a trooper!

reusable test strips
weights to go on syringes
medicinal cream to make injection bruises go away (or not happen in the first place)
smaller vials of insulin, and I don't mean penfill when I say vial- give me a 500 unit vial of Lantus so I don't throw so much when it expires! I use 10-15 units per day, and I'm not getting any bigger, I do not need a 1000 unit vial that goes bad after a month! That's a waste of at least 55% of the vial.
Pen that lets me know exactly how many units I have left before I get to the end of the cartridge.

The freestyle flash/lite HAS a flashlight!!! It shines out of the test strip port so it shines right where you need it - on the strip/blood.
I'd like a little patch that just sits on ian's belly button (wrist/back/arm..wherever) that simply displays a number at any given time. I could jsut say "lift your shirt" and there would be his number.

A pump that can calculate insulin on board and carbs on board

That would be AWESOME!
I totally miss my freestyle with the light. Darn One Touch Ping. Blech. No light.

I would like a syringe filled with a special serum that once injected would eliminate any future insulin use.
Oh wait, that would be a cure! ;)
