I am not sure if this is the right place for this or not.
The show intervention next Monday ( Jan 06 ) is doing a show about a kid with type 1 and not taking care of himself.
Here is what the show is saying about it
John has type one diabetes but refuses to be diligent about checking his blood sugar, or taking his insulin. A social misfit and an outcast for many years, John wants to be considered a regular guy, and pretends to be one by eating whatever he wants without regard for his illness. He has been in a near-coma and hospitalized multiple times. His parents want to stop enabling his self-destructive behavior, but won't kick him out of the house because they fear he'll die without their supervision

I saw the preview last night while watching this week's episode of Intervention....I'm going to try to remember to watch this...

I watch this show when I catch it on. I don't know why it never even occurred to me there would ever be an episode involving type 1 diabetes. I hope I remember to set it on my DVR when I'm home. Thanks for letting us know.

Thanks for letting us know! I think as a parent of a Type 1, one of my main goals is to prevent that from happening, and maybe this show may help add some insight to how that can possibly be achieved.

I think this might be a show to tape and keep just in case. I mean...maybe it will show the bad things that can happen if they take on a bad attitude... I am sort of scared to watch but def. want to watch!

I wonder what "expert" will be providing guidance for the intervention.
ian't wait to hear what you folks say about it - what station is it on? I don't think I have ever seen it listed...but come on, it isn't Sponge Bob, so I coulda missed it!

A&E. It's on on Mondays at 9 PM EST, I think.
They have actually had a show where a T1 girl was featured. She was addicted to Heroin, I think.

I saw this ad last night too and while it certainly sparked an interest, I shudder to think how damage could be done here if the show isn't done "right" and doesn't involve appropriate "experts". I mean, this is a really popular show -- EVEN OPRAH has made comments about it...
I just hope so much that it turns out OK -- wonder if there would be any way we could pre-screen it?!?!

From what I've seen, the show is really about people owning up to their self destructive behavior. So I don't think having a D expert is really the key. I'm sure this kid has had plenty of Endo's telling him what to do and how to care for himself in the past.
What he needs is counseling on why he's doing self harm no matter what the tool of that harm may be. Should be interesting to watch none the less.

Ellen, I don't know if you have seen the show before but they usually have a person who is experienced more in drug and alcohol abuse help with the intervention, and I assume it will be one of those people, as opposed to a D expert. As someone else said, I am interested to watch this but am nervous how badly they will get things wrong..... :o

I would like to see someone with expertise with diabetes who can have reasonable expectations and understand the burnout of diabetes....While analogy to other dangerous behavior can certainly be made, I'd don't think it's sufficient. Thanks for posting about it - it'll be interesting to watch IF I remember to watch it. Will someone post again that day and shortly before it comes on air?

On their Web site you can enter your email also to have them send you a reminder email about the show airing also. We'll see if it works. :)

I almost did a double post on that!!!! LOL. I cant wait to see it. My husband and I just looked at each other.
I will probably tape it and have Nolan watch if it is good. Sometimes i think that show is weak at showing how really sick someone is....
I hope this one does ok.

I agree. Someone who truly understands this.... The burnout must be terrible.
I can only imagine... I hope it is not me going through this one day, but it could be any one of us.

I'm guessing a post that was here and has since disappeared. Some drifter came by touting the intervention thing. Nothing to do with D.
