well, it's official. Our school department just alerted us, no school until Jan 5th. The kids are not going back to school tomorrow due to the snow today (which it's coming down really really hard) and since (I guess) they feel why open the schools for one day on Tuesday, they have called off school on Tuesday too.

ho ho merry merry..

Does this mean school will finish later?

Are you mentally prepared for them to be home for two loooooong weeks?! :D When is it supposed to stop snowing up there, BTW? And how much have you guys gotten so far?

paula - they've haven't yet figured out what they'll do yet. They missed 6 days last week (last friday the 12th and then all last week) and our school calendar has 5 snow days built in, so with the 5 snow days the last day would be june 19th. so add another day and that brings us to june 22. Then 2 more days for next week and we're at june 24. And winter hasn't even started! usually at this time of the year we've maybe used one snow day. Not all of them ++. so they have no idea what they're going to do. In 1978 which was a major north east storm we missed school for only 5 days and we ended up going an extra 15 min a day for the rest of the school year. They just don't know. Apparently they can't go beyond June 30th per the contracts of the teachers (and truthfully since most of the older schools here are not a/c it would be pretty miserable)

so when all is said and done they'll have been home for 3 weeks....ARRRGG

and honestly, we didnt' even get that much - about a foot yesterday and probably another today. tomorrow we'll be able to easily get around.

We've maxed out our built ins too. We haven't heard yet if we have school this week, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. It's still snowing really hard, I think it's the police dept. who will have the final say on this one, not the sup of schools. If they are out this week, it will mean they will be home for 24 straight days:eek:

Calgon, take me away!

I need more than calgon....usually I love school breaks, no schedules, just do what we want... But I must mentally prepare myself for them because this one has totally thrown me for a loop and I am not loving it. At all.

I know what you mean. You think with the 6 days we had off I'd be mentally ready, but I just am not! I have family coming and I see the house getting messier and messier because the kids are always here, not a minute to clean except after when they go to bed and by then, I'm too tired! I also need to wrap presents. Banging on the door, mommy what are you doing? What's that noise? Did you ever notice they always follow us around?:D

Visons of children from all over the country, and world, heading in Teddi's direction...LOL

Teddi my sons will be on the next flight to your house. They fight, bicker, and wrestle with each other. There will be a lot of yelling but I am sure you can handle it.

I'm waiting to hear about mine. They had school for 3 hours Friday. I didn't know it would be snowing clear through the weekend like this.

I was thinking maybe no school tommorow for Tyler and figured that they wouldn't open the schools for just one day on Tuesday, (this after half a day on Friday) BUT it started raining here, so I am guessing there will be school tommorow. (at least I am hoping, I have too much to do for there to be no school before Christmas)!

I am sure I can handle it for a few days, beyond that I may crawl under a rock to hide :D

I only have two here today and I want to crawl under that same rock. Or bury them both.

This is good..I enjoy children and have lots of things for them to do..Do any of them like to go hiking? I also have a mini van so I can stuff 8 in the van with me :D

Hmmmm..... perhaps we can arrange a diabetes camp at Teddi's for next summer???? :D But only if I can send my obnoxious 13 year old non-D as well! ;)

With the way my kids are acting today, I wouldn't have a problem with them being outside on a 118 degree day!;)

Perhaps a Spring Break Camp shall be in order, then?! ;)

I was just wondering, when was the Christmas break supposed to start and end? I wish we would get a little more snow. :( The kids had half a day on Friday, and don't go back until Jan. 6th.

We lost almost two weeks due to Hurrican Ike, but all they did was eliminate all the half-day teacher inservices for the remainder of the year, and we still get out on June 4 (I think).

Having posted a plan of action, methinks Camp Teddi is in business!

It's raining where I am now, too. But if it's freezing rain everything will just turn to ice. The plow never came through my street so I'm not even touching my car tomorrow, even though I dug it out already.

EXACTLY.

I can see this now, you all have your kids fly to LAX and then they catch the puddle jumper flight to Inyokern Airport and I go get them all..Mark will come home and ask where all of the kids came from...Then he will ask why there is more insulin in the fridge and tons more D supplies..Of course he will see all of the tents in the back yard and put two and two together and make plans on taking all of the kids on a nice hike and maybe teach them how to pan for gold..
Just tell him they were "strays" ...he seems to be ok with that concept. ;) ;)

break for us was supposed to start next tuesday the 23 and end they'd go back on the 5th. So a full extra week. How did they end up flling the 180 day requirement, Tuesday, down in TX? There is talk that we might be getting an exemption to that.

in any case, it's 5:30pm and is still snowing.

Our sup of schools is a strict bird. When we had the floods two years ago, she refused to ask for an exemption. We got out June 25th.
I hope that if we don't get an exemption that they tack on 15min. Of course at the rate we are going now, they better start doing it Jan 5!

6:30 and it's still snowing:mad:

No need to dream of a white Christmas, we've got it. And it will probably stay through Memorial Day:D

western mass? pshaw. We live in CENTRAL mass...westner mass is the...the...boonies. But here in central mass we somehow get hit with every nasty weather pattern...if it goes south we catch it, if it goes north/west we catch it. We're just in a bad spot.

Our kids were supposed to have school Friday, and then be off until the 5th. They called school off for Friday so they have and extra day. It was necessary though, we had to go to the airport Friday and the roads were terrible. We have gotten at least a foot of snow so far.

actually, you should leave that snow on your car, or you'll be scrapping windows.. if you leave the snow you'll just have to wipe that off, but ice, thats a total pain:eek:

Our calendar says there are 177 days of instruction, but I don't know how accurate that is. We started on Aug. 25th, and get out June 4th. There are taking away half days and another staff development day, and I think the day after Easter. Somehow it is supposed to work out. Sorry about all of you being snowed in. I REALLY wish we could take a little from you since we are looking at 70 degrees on Christmas. :(

Teddi, I'm sending Sam over, along with our 3 dogs, which I'm sure is no problem. Sam likes to clean toilets!!

We are on break---off from Thanksgiving until New Years--the joys of year round school!! At least 2 of my kids sleep past 7

If you give a Teddi a kitten, she's going to want a kid to go with it. Once the kid shows up from the airport, she's going to need some insulin in the fridge to go along with him. The insulin will remind her of . . . . .

Late to the party as usual -- sorry your weather is rotten. I think if they are going to keep kids some days and send them home other days, they should have to keep them on the days when the weather doesn't let them go outside. Let us have them on the sunny, let's all go play sort of days. Bet the kids would be good with that, too.
