So one of charlize best friend's, mom asked me a while ago, that she would be willing to learn how to care for charlize, her mom and i are friends. So I have been slowly teaching her. and have typed out a case by case how to mini book for her.... SOOOO today was the day.. She invited charlize out to the balllet to see the nutcracker, OVer all it went well............. but hubby screwed up befor, in preparing to make sure to prevent a low as best as possible, he did a combo bolus on her, padded her 10 carbs... , then told her charlzie would be fine for a few hours so dont worry about poking unless she has or says she is low. so my week of training down the drain.. I met them for a b-day party after ward and charlize was 500  , bolused right away, we ate dinner,, bolused for the carbs only... we had cake adn ice cream.. bolused for that, then about 1.5 hours later.. MOM, im low... yep..74.. no biggie right, well she still has 1.7 units IOB.. I dont panic, i know there going to be a rebound... oh well,, i treated,...

I so greatly apprechiate my friend for doing this... in 2 years charlzie has not been able to have just a playdate... nothing w/o mom, dad or the grandparents... :( , I really dont know if my friend truely understands what she has jsut done for not only me, but for charlize...

by the way, charlzie loved the ballet and watching the nutcracker !!!

I love now that Nikki is invited over to friends houses to play and have dinner. She is older now and so can call us herself and we treat over the phone. I don't ask too much of the parents, other then double checking what bolus she punches in to her pump.

But this is all very recent, I only had 1 friend with a girl Nikki's age back when she was younger that was willing to learn diabetes care so that Nikki could play with her daughter, without me around.

But it does make me feel good that there are now parents who are willing to learn so that Nikki can spend time at her friends houses!

Glad that Charlize had a good time even with the hitches! I also have a Nutcracker fan here, I wish they would have the play over here, we miss seeing it every year.

Drat those husbands - foiled again! ;)

William has just started wanting to go off on his own for a bit without me around. Our neighbor literally across the street has a son about his age and she homeschools so he is home all day. It works out well for them to play together in the early afternoon and he has started going over there. Her sister is a type 1 diabetic (and she is from the Ukraine - so the insulins were different, etc). I haven't taught her how to do anything with him other than signs of lows and highs. I can just go across the street and check him myself.

I am afraid of overwhelming friends who volunteer to learn something so they can have him over to play. You certainly have a great friend!
