At what number BG do you treat a low?

They have told us to treat anything under 100, but have also said that it's not a big deal if Reagan is in the 70's or 80's.

I am just curious how everyone else with little ones handles it. I realize that everyone is different, just trying to get a feel for what to do.

Recently, I haven't been treating the 90's because it's at meal time and I figure she will be ok after she has eaten. That has worked out ok.

We treat 80 and below... unless its night time and she's in the 100.. she typically dips at 3am and 5:30am.. so if she's low at 1 or 2 am (by low I mean in the low 100s or lower) then we'll correct.. sometimes we can correct and she'll still go low.. Kaylee isn't under two but she's only 3.. :)

When Griffin was on shots we would treat him for every BG below 100. Now that he's on the pump, we only treat BGs under 70 during the day, but we treat anything below 125 overnight.

thanks for telling me the differences between daytime and bedtime.

In my original post I was talking aobut daytime lows, but didn't state that!

110 is where our hospital wants them to be before bed - seems low for me, I am more comfortable with 125 too!

200 is our bedtime goal.

Ooops, forgot to mention we are on shots.

We're suppose to treat anything under 100 but....it really depends on time of day, what she's eaten, when she received her last shot, etc. We try to keep Teagan a bit higher at night. I use to panic whenever she was under 100 but now I know I don't have to! Now if she's under 80, I panic!

I think 110 is a very low bedtime number for a 1 year-old, (or any small child) unless you can test every hour all night long!!!!
Prior to Emma's sensor our bedtime goal was 160-180, and that was after some intensive basal testing to ensure she wasn't going to drop more than 40 points during the night.
I still prefer for her to be 140-ish at bedtime. A drop immediately after she goes to bed is not uncommon if she's had an active day, so I think it's best to have some room for error. (I never knew about this common drop until her sensor.)

When Emma was one, I treated anything below 100 with a small snack, unless it was meal time. I would just bolus to cover any extra carbs. I'm still not comfortable leaving her below 90 unless it's almost time to eat.

when my son was on shots, we treated anything under 100...his bedtime goal was 155...now that he is on a pump i can safely put him to be at 100 (as long as no IOB) and he will wake up between 100-120....(that is assuming his basals are set correctly, which at the moment, they are)....

when he was first dx, he was 15 mo old.. the drs had us treat anything under 120...he was very sensitive to insulin at the time.

Wow! It's much different here - we only treat if he's under 60 or has symptoms. If he's below 100 at mealtimes we usually have him eat then give insulin afterwards (otherwise we do it first). I'm surprised that everyone treats below 100. With treating when he's below 60 he's usually sky-high by the next mealtime from the juice, etc. What are your numbers usually like after treating a hypo?

I think the key is to give only a small amount of carbs for the low. 5 grams is enough for Emma to be back in range w/o sending her high. Like one small piece of candy, or 1 oz of juice is usually enough for a mild low.
I would never leave her below 80 w/o treating her, I can give insulin to cover any highs later which seems much safer. I've been around enough T1's to know how miserable lows feel, even mild lows, so I try to keep her above 80 at all times. I also think she's more likely to feel a low if she normally runs a bit higher.

Our endo doesn't ever want her below 100 (intentionally) at this point.
