You know, the metal thingie that sticks out and pokes into the skin...what does it do? Can it be covered by a thin bandade without affecting BGs? Anyone know its exact job??:rolleyes:

Are you talking about the temp probe?

If so it measures the skin temperature. If the temp is too high or low the sensor cannot be relied upon for accuracy and the Navigator will give you an alarm. One of the study groups had patients coating it with clear nail polish to help reduce irritation. However, they are now advising against it.

Hmm, I have been covering ours with a thin bandaid . It's the only way it doesn't rough up Mia's skin. It does not seem to mess with Mia's numbers as far as I can tell. Also, we have never got an error message. Why are they now advising again using nail polish?

We left the sweat probe uncovered until this last sensor that we put in. I covered it with a small piece of medical tape because the previous sensor left a red mark on my dd's arm. What's interesting is that we used to get low glucose alarms when she would lay on her arm at night. Since the sweat probe has been covered that hasn't been a problem. I thought the pressure on the sensor caused the alarms but maybe it got too warm.
