View Full Version : Inaccurate high BGs with Navigator

We are still experiencing large discrepancies between actual BG readings and Navigator readings when it comes to BGs > 200. For example, Mia just now tested at 295 BG/220 Navigator. That is a 75 point difference, and there is virtually no IOB on board. Earlier today, we calibrated at 140/141 and 150/152, so I know that the calibrations were spot on this time.
I am curious as to how many of us Navigator users encounter these high Bg discrepancies? At what Bg levels do these tend to occur for you?

For us, the accuracy falls apart as we approach 180 - he could easily be 220 or so when he alarms (we have it set on 180). If we had the alarm set to 200, he could easily be close to 300.
Our current box of sensors isn't even that good - accuracy falls apart around 150 - no matter how good the calibrations are.

It may vary some. It depends on if their BG is moving at all. Even if the main screen is showing a horizontal arrow their BG can moving moving just not fast enough for an angled arrow. I can look at the line graph and see the line angled up for a long period of time. In this case I will get a number lower on the Navigator. The other night Ethan was high 230 , I checked with the flash and it was two off. I did this once more in the night. Same thing. Ethan has been running up high at night and I need a to make a change of some sort. This last sensor has been very accurate. Was Mia's line graph angled up at all? I'll download my data again and report some more comparisons.

Okay,
I downloaded Ethan's Navigator and his Flash. I am only showing the highs comparsions. He has had some highs the last few days . In the process of making changes!!!!
When the angle is 45 degree up arrow I expect some difference.

CM 254 angled up arrow

I'm not sure how I should have answered the poll. It all depends on how the arrow is going for us. I answered <50 but I could have said the lower one.

Wow, Carol. That's amazing!
We are never that close in the 200s!

We did have a few sensors that seemed less accurate but I didn't know if it was bad calibrations or bad sensors or what. That was a while back.

That's another WOW! from me. We are never that close, either. We had excellent calibrations this time but the numbers just don't match. Like she came home from school 175 on Navigator, straight line, yet she was 207 on BG.

Marisa,
Was your daughter slightly going up? Was the line graph showing a gradual increase? I think they say the CGMs can be 10 - 13 minutes behind.

I have gotten to where this doesn't even faze me - it's what I expect! And it is one reason we have the high alarm set on 180. I figure that way I'm really catching him in the low 200s. I am considering lowering that threshold - but I'm a little worried about it going off too much at school.
I have also come to terms with the fact that the sideways arrow doesn't really mean he's steady (at least not how I would define steady). And any kind of directional arrow means "HEY!! PAY ATTENTION NOW!!" if he's anywhere close to the high or low threshold.
I feel like I'm always complaining about this device - but I still love it. Hopefully, they send me my new one soon.

Yeah, I hear you. I just wish we had customizable alarms. Our high is set at 179 most of the time but I have to mute the alarm after breakfeast because she always exceeds that for a while. Sometimes I even change it to 201 for daytime just so the alarm doesn't keep going off...

I would love customizable alarms.
I mute it when I drop him off at school - and then tell him to mute it again if it goes off before 11am (the pump usually says no correction before then anyway because of IOB).
I also encourage the nurse and aide to mute it at lunch but they won't. They can't seem to get their heads wrapped around the idea that it only mutes the high alarm.

We do the same. The nurse does mute it an hour at a time (I wish we could extend to 2 hrs), and on days when she just cannot get in range (thankfully, there are no too many), she just takes the Navigator with her into the office until the next BG check. She is a pretty cool lady.
Btw Mia just showed 198 Nav --> and 276 BG . Go figure!

Oooh - a 2 hour mute would be awesome. I could live without the customizable alarms if I had a 2 hour mute.
Wouldn't it be better to just turn off the high alarm if she can't get into range? Then at least you are still getting readings, and she would still have the low alarm in case she unexpectedly drops.

They could have a good product if they would improve on the quality.
I just put Palm brand pda screen covers on the two receivers last night but it scratches if you look at it. :p My older son's receiver acts like it is starting to have problems. Whenever we have to replace the batteries it takes several tries to get it t ocome back on. Also, only on his too when we calibrate it looses connection at the moment of or right after you calibrate. I think I will call and get on their wait list for a new system for him.

The one that just failed for us did this too. Sometimes just picking up the receiver would give us the lightening bolt. Most of the time it didn't matter but when it happened at calibration time and messed up my perfectly good calibration it was really annoying!

I'm dredging this back up because we started back on the Navigator today - and our sensor has been ACCURATE in the 200s (where we've been all day )
So it is possible...

Diana,
Did they just send a new receiver or a transmitter?

Both. It was the System Kit box you get when you purchase the Nav.
