I completely forgot about getting test strips for the Navigator. Brendan uses the FreeStyle Lite, but the Navigator uses different strips, right? Will they include some with the initial kit? If not, which ones does it use? I've looked, but in my sleep deprived state, I can't find the info.

TIA

I figured it out. The kids come with 50 and they are regular FreeStyle, not FreeStyle Lite. Argh.

Yeah, it will come with just 50. Only use the regular freestyle strips for calibrations right now.

Rumor has it that the next gen will use the Lite strips.

We got 650 strips for a 3 month supply with our order. I am surprised they didn't say anything to you about needing the strips. 50 won't get you very far.

Heidi,
What meter do you use? I thinnk my insurance will only pay for one presp. for strips at a time. We still use the old flash so we have the same strips as the Navigator. I heard they started the Navigator so long ago that is the way it was designed. I'm sure on the next release they will make use use the Freestyle lite strips.

We get Flash strips. We have a separate script for Lite strips. The flash strips are filled through our DME coverage (650 strips for $20) and I can always refill our Lite strips through our prescription coverage (300 strips for $80). But at this point we're just using up our old Lite Strips then we'll switch over to the Flash strips and use our old Flash meter.

We have a DME cap and whether we use Rx or DME, we pay 15%. We just refilled our Lite strips, so to get the $50 off, we need to wait for a few more weeks. The Navigator still isn't here anyway. They still haven't shipped it from what I can see. She said it'd be here by Monday at the latest, but Edgepark was still asking for more info from our endo on Friday, I think. The only reason I know that is because our center is all screwy and switched the person handling Navigator. I was gone all day and couldn't try to find out what's going on. Of course, we were charged over $300 for our part early last week.

I'm feeling frustrated, but I guess it rarely goes smoothly when involving Abbott, an insurance company, Edgepark and a big diabetes center.

I'll have the center call in an Rx for the strips once we get the Navigator and use most of the 50. I really hate insurance companies and our screwed up healthcare system. I just tell myself to be glad that we have coverage and that Brendan has the care and meds he needs.

I could go on and on about insurance. I have two chronic conditions, and one of them could jeopardize my college progress and my ability to work. Losing insurance would be one of the worst things that could happen to me. I am an accomplished student, and I could lose medical insurance for taking medical withdrawal from college! But, a new federal law was passed called michelle's law, that keeps somebody from getting dropped from insurance from up to 12 months if the student takes medical withdrawal.

It's ridiculous.

The only reason why I have to worry about this is because insurance companies are in the business to make money. They don't care if I have access to medical care or not. That's why they have the pre-existing condition clause: to decrease liabilities.

Outrageous.

Brendan's mom, I don't think they should have charged you if the Navigator hasn't shipped yet??

We our stuff ships from Edgepark we get an email with a tracking number from UPS. If Edgepark doesn't have this then they haven't shipped. Did they tell you it was in stock?
