We are raising three kids, 2 are living with type 1. I ALWAYS said that when they ask for it, they can have a pump. My older son Grady brought it up at our last appointment with the endo. The nurse printed out a little info and that was about it.
My younger son is STRUGGLING with serious lows in the night (seizures) like his older brother did. We are at our wits end. Ethan is only 4 and has been diagnosed for a year and a half and absolutely HATES his injections but doesn't mind BS checks. He isn't asking for a pump and really has no clue about them. I'm starting to think I should put them both on pumps and CGMs and just get on with it.
How do you go about getting on the pump track?
We started by talking to the endo office (anti climactic)
We researched the pumps available in Canada and had packages sent from 4 companies. We've had offers from suppliers for a visit but are holding off.
We went throught the packages and have narrowed it down to 2.
I've checked with hubbies insurance and of course they cover nothing. The Sask government covers $6300 for a pump and all the supplies are covered. YAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!SASKATCHEWAN ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!
So we'll cover the difference on the pump cost, no biggie.
Now what? Back to the doctor?
We live on a ranch in the middle of nothing. Our endo is 5 hours away. I was wondering how that will work?
Should I make sure my pump has the option for CGMing if we decide on that route? I really feel like its the answer, but what the heck do I know these days? I roll over in bed and the 4 year old is having a seizure right BETWEEN his dad and I! Some advice would be great parents!
