View Full Version : Continuous Monitor for toddler
Budapest

My son (2 years old) was diagnosed 3 months ago and we have been pumping for about 6 weeks. On an average day he is finger-tested 10-12 times. What is the consensus -- is there a benefit in starting to use a continuous monitor as well? do they work for toddlers? By how much would they reduce the number of finger-piercing exercises?
Thanks.

My 2 year-old daughter is on the Minimed Paradigm Real-time system. We've been using it for a little over a month and I LOVE it! We have cut testing from an average of 10-12 times a day to about 6-8. In time I think the finger sticks will be cut back even more.
She has been on a pump for over a year now and we've never been able to achieve great control, (it's OK for her age, just not good enough for me ;)), and she has no symptoms or awareness of hypoglycemia. These were the biggest reasons I chose the CGMS. So far we have seen much more stable numbers, fewer highs, and no severe lows. Having the ability to see what her BG is doing all the time has been very helpful!
I have posted a few times on the parents forum about our experience with it so far. This link may have some helpful info for you! http://forums.childrenwithdiabetes.com/showthread.php?t=2243
Best of Luck!!
