How many Minimed sensors does your insurance pay for per month? How many sensors per box?

Abbott Navigator only puts 6 sensors in each box for a month. There is a normal 5 day wear with these. This leaves no room for problems. They need to increase the box to 7! Abbott are you listening??!!

we get our from Aplus.. They will only ship 1 box every other month.. so that is 5 a month. (its a ox of 10). I dont know if this is my insurance or APlus though. Thankfully we get about 10-12 days with each sensor, although they are only approved for 3 days.

I'm paying out of pocket for the moment- some talk with insurance and they may or may not cover the sensors for me in the future.

Minimed sells boxes of sensors as 10 packs and 4 packs. The 10 packs are 350 dollars and the 4 packs are 145 dollars. I think that the sensors last longer on my body when they've been in my home for shorter times, so I go for the 4 packs.

I assume my insurance would pay for a box of 10 per month. We use each sensor for 7 days, so I've never tried to get more. Our sensors are covered 100%.

I believe our insurance pays for a box of 10 (minilink) sensors once every 3 days--1 sensor for every 3 days since this is what the FDA has approved the sensors for.

I know this question was for MM users, but we get 5 boxes of sensors for a 3 month time frame. Do you get just one box per month? Can you get more boxes? So far our insurance hasn't raised an issue over having 5 boxes per every 3 month period.

We get 1 box of sensors per 30 days (Navigator) - and they won't let us order early  It certainly does not allow for sensor problems. We've built up a little cushion since we restart sensors though.

The boxes we've been sent usually expire in a few months time though, so we can't really stockpile too much.

Heidi,
Who do you order your sensors from? Edgepark only lets me order one box per month. Like I can really afford more.LOL

We go through Apria. I know, the cost sucks, but at least we won't run out!

Heidi,
Has your insurance paid Apria for the sensors yet? I may need to call them. Do you have their number?
What insurance do you have?

We have Aetna. I am not sure if insurance has paid for the sensors yet. I will look for Apria's number and post it as soon as I can.

We just got our first CGMS approval since IBC of PA starting covering CGMS's in October.

They are paying for 70% of the cost of sensors and the CGM itself, with re-authorization
required at 90 day intervals. For the Minimed Guardian, our cost is $98 for 10 sensors,
vs. $335 we used to pay out of pocket.

Almost makes up for the twelve thousand dollar a year group insurance premiums!

Darryl,
You pay $12,000 for your insurance premiums?

I should feel lucky them. We two diabetic children. We still only pay $76 a month for the whole family medical. I guess the company picks up the rest?
I guess that makes up for we have a $1500 deduct. per child.

We were going to have to pay close to $14k in premium last year for group coverage for our little family of 4 - and that was for high deductible insurance ($2500 per person). It is insane. We ended up getting individual policies for my non-D son and me just to make it more affordable. We elected to keep group coverage for my D son though.

We order the larger box - I believe it is a box of 10? However, it takes longer than a month to process so by the time we get them in the mail, we are almost ready for them. I am hoping that since my insurance doesn't change this year, that I will be able to continue them without much of a fuss
