I know a few of us dreaded today's meal and (food) festivities and there are several first-timers (for Thanksgiving with D) amongst this community. Just wanted to know how everything went today?
We had a fun day with the kids and Mia's numbers were in great range (100-140s) until I overdosed her on the big meal at 3:30 (wasn't sure which ratio to use...our lunch ratio is 1:20, our dinner ratio is 1:28, and I ended up using the more aggressive ratio)...after dinner we had pie and after pie Mia was 141....then dropped suddenly to 52 right before bed....BUT overall I am really happy with how it went.
Hopefully, this was our last Thanksgiving without a CGMS!! :D

It went much better than I expected. the kids ran around quite a bit and that seemed to help with the carb overload. Griffin averaged around 170 for the day. Not too bad.:cwds:

Iris did pretty good. Plenty to eat at my mom's, but she picked the right stuff. She was around 200 right before we ate. When she gets excited, she always ends up going low. So I just gave her the lantus, but no novolog. Had to bring her up a bit at bed time. So it worked out well.

This was the first year on a pump. I had Philip bolus 10 units before we ate and then 10 after. He ate about 200 grams of carbohydrate. A couple hours after eating, he was 199 -- which is great. Then an hour later he was 325. He doesn't usually eat that much, so I guess the insulin needed to be more and spread out a bit.

Our day went pretty well. We had a huge TDD though. We went to dinner 1, and dinner 2. Next year it will be my turn to host so that will make it easier. We just bolused as we went, and for every little carb. Julia's blood sugar was 221 at bedtime, but I did not correct because her last bolus was just an hour ago, and last night I set her basal rates to increase at 9, because we see alot of bedtime highs. I think I should have had it increase at 7 in hindsite, and end at 10, but I can always redo tomarrow. So I will just recheck at 11 and see where we stand. Not one person gave me advise about D, which I was totally expecting them to, but a few did ask about the pump, and stuff. Julia's Grandma Becky, one of my MIL's was really interested in the pump, which I thought was pretty cool.
Over all, all of my anxiety was for nothing. I hope it went just as well for everyone else.

Vincent was a wild man yesterday. He did nothing but eat and run like crazy. So, he ran low for about 3 hours. I could get it back up. The highest he would go was 80. So, we ended up taking off his pump and he kept eating and running. About 1 1/2 hours later he was up to 127. Just in time for dinner. Amazingly enough, our top BG was 192. Didn't correct it, and he woke up at 140. YEAH! I love the pump. Have I mentioned that?? A little jittery though. Today is our first site change by ourselves. I hope Vincent does it again, so I can just watch and help if needed. That would be sweet. :o

First time on pump and we bolus and grazed and needed. He was 141 pre-dinner but that was with a couple of pretzels in him already without coverage since he arrived at our friends house as 87! :):)
He is such a meat eater, turkey, ham etc. No veggies, rice, fruit or pie. One choc. cookie for dessert. All in all great! He was a bit low around 75 for bedtime. Just gave me a small amount of Gatorade and off to slumberland he went. Woke up this morning at 106! And by breakfast he was 126. So great numbers all around. Didn't make any basal adjustments on the pump at all. Just went with the carb counting!

I tryed the dual wave bolus on adam.....first time . I am not sure how it worked really. I gave him 60% of his insulin up front and then 40% in a half hour. STill trying to get my mind to work. His number before dinner was 200'ish, then about an hour later he was 72. Then he went up to 200'ish again. I think i will have to try it on something that we do often ......chinese food comes ti mind. But still i am happy with the way it turned out. :cwds:

ok. dinner was good, It wa hard to count what he ate because his grandmothers could barley tell me what they put in any of the food, le alone carb counts. So I used my calorie king guide and estimated 125 carbs. We started the saline so I was also usijng the pump as well,
i didi have the pump calclated the boluses and it did an excellent job I was able to take that info and apply it to what I gave him for an injection, with out using a calculator! His higest was 220, not bad for the 1st thanksgiving.:)
