We are continuing to have high BG and ketone issues daily with Reagan.

I spent the morning on the phone with the hospital, BG 597 - ketones large.

The nurse says to me, "I think we need to try spliting her Lantus."

WHAT?

I asked 2 weeks ago about doing just that to help Reagan out and they told me "we don't do that, Lantus isn't meant to be used that way"

So my poor baby has suffered through these highs and ketones for 10 days now and all of a sudden, it's ok to split her Lantus.

Thanks to all of you that gave me that info. We WILL be giving her 1.5 U tomorrow morning and 1.5 unit tomorrow evening.

Anything else that we need to know? I know we need to be right on top of the 12 hour mark - that's not a big deal.

I should have a pump start date soon too, so won't be doing the split for long.

Totally frustrating. I remember you posting about them not splitting Lantus.

When does she normally receive the full dose of Lantus?
If she receives it at night, did they have you reduce the amount you give tonight so that it will be wearing off after the 12hrs tommorow and she'll be ready for the new dosing tommorow?

Hope she's not feeling to yucky from the high bg's.

Poor Baby!!:( It's so hard on their tiny bodies to go through so much. I'm sorry it's taken them so long to help you fix this!!!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a quick pump start for Reagan!:cwds:

Wow, only 2units?

When we start, they are having us start with 6units a day(one time) I wonder if only giving her 1.5 units was the problem? JUst curious.
