Anyone else read the Twilight book series by Stephanie Meyer? I am on book four and kind of sad that after this book it will be the end of the story? Seems that I have an addictive personality - addicted to these books and CWD:eek:

I am in love (with Edward)
My whole office is reading them (only 3 of us) :D
I am behind - JDRF walk coming up this weekend. I just finished Book 1 and am picking up Book 2 Saturday afternoon. Everyone else is on Book 3.
I don't even want to think about when I pick up book 4 and I know that is my last one. Are you going to go the movie that comes out next month.

I am a Jacob fan myself. Two of the moms from Tylers football team and I have been reading them - We are going to go together to see the movie (I am always disappointed in the movie after I have read the book though) They are selling Team Edward and Team Jacob T-shirts at a store at the local mall:D

Read them. Enjoyed them. Found them refreshing after reading so many adult vampire story lines(s#x). Was very happy that there really wasn't any of that in them.

I JUST literally finished book four. I mean..really...just about 30 minutes ago. What an ADDICTING series this was for me. I read each book in less than a week. The first one in just 24 hours. I LOVED LOVED LOVED this series. Did I mention I loved this series? I won't say whose side I loved the most b/c I know the entire story now. Needless to say, I can't WAIT for the movie!

I havent read them, but Kylee really wants too. She bugs me constantly about it and I told her she couldnt read them until I do because Im not sure of the content. She has a really high reading level, so I dont think that part would be a problem, but Im not sure her maturity level is there, know what I mean? So what are your opinions, are they appropriate for an almost 11 year old girl? I know a lot of the kids at our jr. high and high schoool are reading them and the librarians say they are one of the most popular books right now with 20 kids on each waiting list.

I can safely say there is no sex until the last book and it is worded well. Waited until married and no real written examples.
Content is high school girl who knows more than her parents and does what she wants basically but in her mind for the greater good of all involved. So, if you have a child who struggles with listening to parents maybe not but if you have a child who can think things through than at least the first 2 are okay for content.
I know 1 ten year old who loved the love story in them and 1 14 year old who said all they talk about it love, ugh.:)
I have not let my daughter read them even though she has a really high reading level, she loves a love story too much:rolleyes:, otherwise I probaly would but the violence (for my daughter) would be too much yet.
Have fun,

The books are labeled young adult at our library. At football tonight a dad saw me reading the book and said his daughter who is a freshman read all the books and that he got her tickets to the premier opening in Boston. There is no "real sex" in them but some passion. I would suggest reading them yourself and then passing it on to her if you feel that it is appropriate.

Samantha said that a few girls in her class are reading them. She may start reading them next once she has finished with The Freedom Writer's Diaries (http://www.amazon.com/Freedom-Writers-Diary-Teacher-Themselves/dp/038549422X). Maybe I'll read the series with her. She's not really a love story kind of a girl, though, so maybe she'll pick something else.

My DS loved the Freedom Writers Diaries - it really inspired him.

hmm, I don't think I'd let my 11 yr old read them just yet, but definitely my 13 year old. Why? Because there ARE some graphic images described. I won't describe them here bc I know there are children that read the forums. Maturity would definitely have to be taken in consideration. I think the books would give MY 11 yr old nightmares..but that's just for my child....

thanks for the details on content! That's always really important. Some of the teen books out there are really not quite right.

I just saw the movie trailers for Twilight...OMG...I'm sooo pumped up! This is gonna be great!
Frizzy.... there are some fight scenes in there..that I personally wouldn't want my 11 yr old to read but, really, it's JUST a book but my girls still get scared sometimes. The books are also full of dream sequences...and that puts the thought in their head that dreams can become real. IMO that's not a good thing to put into their heads. Again, I am just taking my own children in consideration here.

I'm so in love with these books! I lost a week of my life to them (just finished them two weeks ago) and it was WORTH it!
I'm glad to see that others like them as well. I borrowed these from a friend but am considering buying them (when on sale) for my personal collection.
Fun!

thanks Denise - my daughter is 15 1/2 so those things don't bother me much but absolutely at 11 they would have. Big maturity difference between 11 and 15 (though sometimes not much LOL)

My son is in 6th grade. One of his teachers recommended the series. He has finished first book and I took him to Borders and bought the last 3 for him. He couldn't wait to get home and get started on book 2!!!!!

I enjoyed all the books - read threw them very quickly. I, however, have told my now 12 year 6th grader she cannot read them. The first book doesn't have as much in it as some of the following books. I would definitely read them first before you let your younger child read them. I haven't read adult fiction for a long time now because I have learned I really need to pre-screen the books that come from the Young Adult section.

Wohoo, Other Twilight fans!!
My sister got me hooked on the books, I am only on the second one currently.
I didn't think I would like the books in the beginning(vampires etc etc), but it instantly grabbed my attention.

I feel pretty confident that the series would be totally fine for my daughter. I will definitely read it with her, but if she can handle the issues raised in Freedom Writers Diary (LA Riots, Bosnian War, Holocaust, etc.), she can totally handle this series. Also, not much scares my daughter, so I think that would be no big deal. She is more sensitive about things like animal cruelty (still refuses to watch Black Beauty). But I think it is really good that parents are pre-screening things like this, reading books should be educational experiences and sometimes they can't be if kids are reading something beyond their level of maturity or if they do not have enough guidance to understand and analyze the text.
Texsonmom - Samantha is having the same experience with FWD. I have never seen her so excited about a book, ever. She talks about it every day, I get regular updates about what's happening in the book. Last year Samantha's teacher had one of the Freedom Writers come to the class and talk, I hope she is able to line that up for this year as well, Samantha would freak out!
