Hello,
I am the father of a 4 year old with type 1. She was diagnosed in May 06. I am just about done the log book that came with our Freestyle Mini glucose reader and was wondering what options I have to replace it.
Are there better log books out there? What does everyone use?
Thanks for your help

We usually use a log "sheet" and depending on whether your daughter uses daily shots or is on the pump there are two different sheets that our endo hands out. Have you tried calling your endo and seeing if they have log sheets too? We just xerox a bunch of them and then stick them with the fridge magnets on the fridge. It is handy to have in the kitchen since that is where BG and meals are prepared. It is great to just jot it down on the fridge door. We take it off when we go out to a restaurant and then I just fold it in four and stick it into my pocketbook with a pen and the BG monitor and track while we are sitting at the restaurant table.
Then when the log is filled up, I "three hole punch" it and use a plain three-ring binder to place it it. I use the binder when I go to the doctor's office and they go over the log sheets flipping backwards through the binder (most current is at the top and then the others follow through the previous weeks). It's simple but works great and we have been logging this way for over 1 year now. And the endo's love their own logs, so there are never complaints about certain information that is left out.
Hope this helps.:cwds:

I use the Lifescan UltraSmart. I read the BGs, enter the carb and insulin right in the meter at the time of the event. When I download it to the computer I can view the data from their software. And being the computer wiz that I am, I do an export to MS Access and then I can create any report, graphs or whatever data that I want to see however I want it to look like. And since it's not on paper, I can keep the data as long as I want, eventually do stuff like yearly average comparisons.

"My Other Checkbook" from www.diabetesnet.com is a good logbook - small but with lots of room for info.
I use an excel worksheet that my elder daughter made for me - shes just added a graph - I find they are very good for 'seeing' the trend of bloodsugars :cwds:

I have a small notepad I carry in my purse for when we are out. I use the ultra smart meter as well, and have pumping flow sheets to use for now. I like to chart carbs, insulin, and b/g to see the changes, but it drives me nuts when I have to get down to the nitty gritty of writing down EVERYTHING!!!
There are pages that you can download for recording b/g at lifescan, bd, and I am sure other places as well. Also if on your computer you have a spreadsheet program you can make your own. There is also this http://www.dltk-cards.com/chart/ it is for chore charts, but it makes a fun b/g record. I have Julia put her numbers on this one so she can have practice charting.
Hope you find one that works well for you. Jamie

You can ask the company for a replacement for the Freestyle mini log book if you like it. I found it too crammed up to write in easily -- it's great to have a little, portable meter case but the little wee book that fits inside is TOO small -- and really too small for a kid to write in (not that mine does).
