Today it is cold and rainy. The leaves are changing. This is what I call a perfect day for comfort food for dinner. I am about to throw the original dinner menu to the wind and go get some fried chicken, potatoes, vegetables and biscuits along with a pumpkin pie for dessert. So, what are your ideas for comfort food for these chilly autumn days coming up?

What are cold Autumn days?
In Vegas, we flip the switch on the gas fireplace when it gets below 70 degrees. We bundle up and cook chili and cornbread and watch the palm trees blow in the wind. :D

Comfort food: my husband makes the best chili. But it has to be cold outside, and it still ain't cold here!

Chicken and Dumplings;)
Made a big pot over the weekend, that's a sure sign that the weather is changing:cwds:

We had a lovely dinner here. It was so comforting and now the kids are settling down to a Go Diego movie. These evenings are truly my most favorite ones.

I'm looking for it on line - I use the one in the NY Times Cookbook. Basically a big pot of stock, carrots and celery and chicken off the bone into which you add blobs of dumpling dough seasoned with rosemary and parsley, simmer covered for 15 min and serve. But I'll keep looking for the specifics;)

That sounds so yummy. Is Colorado cold too? I remember Denver being cold and then warm again during this time of year. The weather never could make up its mind even in January.

My kids are awful. They don't like chili so I rarely make a big pot of it.

Abby only likes the smell of it. She's actually asked me to make it so she can smell it! Luckily the rest of us eat it so it's not a big deal to make it to cater to her sense of smell:D

Everything sounds soo good! Yum! In the fall and winter, we have "Soup Sundays". I make a big pot of soup during the afternoon and we eat it for our dinner. My family loves it! Last Sunday we had cheesy cauliflower and potato soup and the Sunday before, beef stew. I would like to make a chicken and dumpling soup but don't have a recipe for gluten free dumplings--any ideas? Another comfort meal would be everything you'd have for Thanksgiving!
