Molly has been dealing with a mild stomach ache the last few days. Her numbers yesterday were "ok"....went to bed last night w/ a .4 on the ketone meter and a BG of 77 (treated and given extra snack). This morning she wakes up w/ bg of 66  and ketones at .6 on the meter. I was thinking she'd be high w/ the virus ...not low . This is our first stomach virus since dx. Anyone care to give me their opinion? I've had her treat the low w/ a small fruit roll up (only thing I could get her to take that was appetizing)...and she's going to try some toast. We don't have any sprite here yet...should I get diet AND regular? One for when she's lower and one to keep her from going low?! We do have some gatorade here... Someone please come hold my hand and steer me in the right direction! I am going to have to leave her home today w/ her daddy...who I am sure will be calling mommy all day today for advice! :o

Oh geesh! These stomach bugs are spreading like crazy! I can't offer any advise as we haven't been there yet. I'm sure someone will pop in soon to help. Hope she feels better soon!

we just had two pieces of toast, I'm encouraged by the fact that she wants to eat.... she got just a 1/2 unit of insulin b/c her carb ratio is 1:40 for breakfast.

My first advice is to call your endo. I wish we could have gotten hold of ours.
What worked for Dean was to drink liquid with carbs and give insulin - also drink some water.
My son hasn't tried to eat again.

My rule of thumb is to have something on hand to stop vomitting, clear regular and diet sodas, regular POwerade and Powerade Zero, freeze pops &/or popsicles, soups, broths, and whatever comfort food they like.

Sorry your dealing with a stomach virus.
My experience with stomach viruses is insulin needs drop significantly. I always need to decrease Madison's insulin by 40-50% for exactly 7 days after the virus. I would check bs about every couple of hours first few days.
Every person is different, but my main advice would be careful to watch for lows. The body just isn't digesting food very well after a stomach virus, which can wreak havoc on blood sugars.
Hope she starts feeling better soon.

That's really interesting and something to keep an eye out for - or at least to have my son make sure he has something for lows with him! Thanks for the heads up.

In our house Stomach bugs cause lows and increased sensitivity too. We end up only using sugar pop just to keep pumping insulin in him. Morning usually come with starvation ketones from the night before on top of ketones just from being sick. Another time when cgms comes in really handy!
