I just wanted to let people know about the UK CWD website and the UK on- line email support list.
I set up the UK mailing list (which is run via the servers for US CWD site) quite a few years ago and its a very busy lively community. There are about 170 members who have children with diabetes aged from 18 months to young adults.
I ask Jeff Hitchcock to set up this UK section of the forum 2 years ago. However, because the mailing list pretty busy with people exchanging info and asking questions, this UK section of the message board forum isnt nearly as busy as the mailing list. I look in here from time to time and get some of the list members to look in too. However the majority of communication seems to happen on the email forum and I dont have time to be in both places at once.
I am currently working with Diabetes UK, JDRF, INPUT under our group name Children with Diabetes Advocacy Group. The UK CWD Advocacy Group came about because no one was addressing the problems of children with diabetes in school. Exclusions from trips, lack of support for children needing help with injections and blood tests etc. General lack on knowledge about diabetes and unwillingness to help. We called the first meeting of the School Action Group in March 2007 . We have been working on school's issues ever since. This Autumn JDRF and Diabetes UK are focusing on children and young peoples issues.
If anyone is currently expirencing problems with school please let me know.
You can find out more about the email list by visiting our new website here
