Just trying to gather those who may feel like they don't belong here. Please don't feel offended. I just would like to get those occasional posters, lurkers, and people who hesitate in posting to just introduce themselves a bit or write something about themselves.

Often, we forget that there are real stories behind the people posting, and that there are feelings too. So, let's just get to know each other, if you'd like.
I'll start to give you some incentive.

I'm Paula.
I post a lot.
I miss my parents. They live in the US.
I'm quite shy in person, but not when I write ;)
I underestimate myself often.
I miss working.
I love Calvin & Hobbes.
I have a big heart and big hips (Talula, watch out...I'm working on the Hula:D)
I know tons of useless facts, but suck at math.

I'm also a computer programmer by trade, so I'm online all the time.
I'm in the CWD chat room a lot. Talking things out helps me very much.
I sure hate diabetes, but I love to keep my kid alive. So I never tire of learning.
I play saxophone in a 20-piece band, quite a lot these days.
I do a lot of the musical scoring for our band's tunes. Sometimes I think I like sitting at the piano with score paper more than playing.
I have a BM in music theory & composition, a BA in computer science, and an MS in computer science.
I post a lot and and am talkative online, but am not really that way in person.
I have a bad habit of making jokes at my own expense.
I'm a staunch political independent, and detest polarization more than anything. I really wish people would get along and stop treating politics like a football game.

Oh - and to make it a list...press Enter at the end of every line. Then, highlight your list by clicking and dragging your mouse over it. Finally, on the post toolbar, there is a button that has 3 squares with lines - that is the Bulleted List button (if you rest your mouse pointer over the button - it actually calls itself an Unordered List button - but hey, it means the same thing!)

Since some of the biggest posters on posting on this thread, I will too!

Marsha, if you're a freak, I really, really likes freaks. :p I'm married to a math guy and have known many math people over the years, so I think it's a perfectly normal way to be -- as well as liking bugs. :p

I am not shy. I'm very opinionated about many things, but I hope I get that way by thoughtfully considering a lot of different viewpoints and not by being thick-headed. But, it's hard to know these things about yourself.

My name is Rella. I've been married for 26 years to Rob. We waited for 14 years to start trying for kids, because we got stuck going to school forever, so kept putting it off. Then, we had trouble conceiving and after 3 intense years, finally got pregnant with Brendan who is 8. He's our only child and we are crazy about him. He was dx'd in March and we're still reeling. Hubby is likely to be dx'd today as Type 1 as well.

I'm interested in nearly everything. I'm flexible and adaptable. We lived in England for nearly 4 years and loved it. I'd move overseas again in a second. We've lived all over the country -- Seattle, Tucson, Maine and Florida. We like to see different things and experience life in different places.

I haven't really worked since Brendan was a baby. I tried to take him to work with me and couldn't do it, so quit working. I've worked some on our own business, which we've neglected for the last few years.

One son Steven just turned 19. He has a heart of gold.
I love SPORTS of any kind, news junkie, reading and animals
My Dad was an authority on the Mafia and I see him on A&E all the time being interviewed - he passed last year at 85.
I am not at peace with the Diabetes thing. It has been over two years and I am sooooo sorry my son has to deal with it.
CWD has allowed me to learn and share with others without having to over-mommy my young adult son.

Yay! What a great idea for thread. I'm enjoying gettting to know everyone!

I'm Alyce.
I'm 42.
I was born in Chicago, but left at age 3 for Indiana, then New York, then Maryland, then VA. I did go back to Chicago when I was 18, but couldn't afford it, so returned to VA. (As an adult I moved from VA to NY to CA to Southern IL back to CA.)
I have 4 kids ranging from age 23 months to 24 years.
The only instrument I could ever play with any skill was the clarinet (I wanted to play sax, but my parents could only afford the clarinet.) I gave it up years ago because I couldn't sing along.
I sang for a while - choruses, bands, etc. Never hit the big time. :)
My husband has played guitar for 30+ years and is quite good.
Together we operate vintageguitarpro.com because we both have a sick fascination for vintage guitars.
I met my husband when I was 11 and he was 12 - and I hated his guts (we met in the Talented and Gifted program in middle school), but didn't marry him until we were 35 and 36 respectively. (Dated at 16 and again at 20. Took a long time to pan out for us.) We grew up in VA, and independently (4 years apart, him first) moved to CA. He just happened to be within an hour of where I landed. Talk about fate! Had no idea he was out here. We were married within 3 months of my arrival.
I hate math but spend hours with my calculator every day trying to figure out IC ratios and corrections.
I used to work full time as a web developer, but now stay home and write/edit/proofread part time.
I homeschool my kids - only one presently. One's on her own, one's in college, one's 12 (he's the lucky homeschooler), and one is a baby. :) But learning all the time anyway.
I take classes online for fun because I love learning new things.
I've never felt unwelcome here, but I have felt like maybe I'm being obnoxious with all my questions.
I've never felt more challenged with anything I've learned than with diabetes. And I know I'll never know it all.

Hello, I am Heidi, and I am a CWD addict.
I post a lot and consider everyone here an extended family (even if we disagree from time to time).

My daughter was born 3 days before I turned 24, so I am kinda a young mom.
I am an avid knitter.
I love the internet and spend a lot of time on it, especially these days, which brings me to my next point ...
I am unemployed and have been so since June. I wish I could work in a diabetes related field.
I am a weekly participant in a popular local pub quiz and we dominate!
I also firmly believe that my life could be better if I played more Guitar Hero.
I am very glad that Paula posted this thread because I really do love getting to know everyone here and truly feel we all belong.

I'm Tena.

I have 2 kids. DS is 20 and DD is 16.

Married 24 years (in Oct) to the love of my life.

I lurk more than I post, mainly cuz I just have a lot to learn and not a lot to add.

I love my kids more than anything. D has been very hard for me. Not for DD though.

I love to read, sew (sewing pumpwear now!) , cook.

My husband has worked 2 jobs most of our married life so I can be a SAHM.

I am now homeschooling DD for her senior year and loving it.

CWD has been a godsend to me. I read everyday without fail. Thanks everyone.

I'm Christina.
I'm ALSO a CWD addict.
We waited until I was 30 to have our first child.
I've been a SAHM for 12 1/2 years - sometimes I want to go back to work, and sometimes I don't!
I have been married to Mark for 23 years this Sunday.
I used to consider myself very confident, but don't feel that way any more.
I LOVE children and sometimes wish I had had more than 2. (Remind me this later when the kids come home and start bickering, OK?!)

I'm Connie

I'm almost done my 50th year(and proud of it)

I had uterine ca @ 20 and had a partial hyst, in my 30's I had tumors on my remaining tube and had that removed(benign) (why I'm proud to be starting my 50's and plan to live a LONG time)

I've had Type 1 D for over 35 years(mum has no idea how old I was when dx'd, with 5 kids hard to remember anything she says :cwds:) I remember only being D.

I had a stroke when I was 16, and 3 heart failures in my 20's(allergy related for heart) There's no damage showing now.

I take mega supplementation and seldom get sick, if I pick up a cold it's usually 3 days tops, and minor.

I try to eat natural and organics when affordable. I don't ever eat processed foods.

I'm married to Allan, have been for 20 years(he's my 2nd and final)

We're from Dartmouth Nova Scotia, we live in Surrey BC. All my family except 1 brother are in Dartmouth, he's in Ottawa. MY 4 siblings range from 48-60.

My mum comes to see me 1x a year if she can, she's in her 80th year, and acts like she's 50, still works full time at her home based business(health care).

I work 10-11 hours a day 5 days a week, as a manager or a collision repair shop, and have a part time home job keeping books for 2 companies, nights and weekends. I also volunteer for the JDRF all year and work all the events.

edit:: oops I forgot to say I'm blind now in my right eye, due to a detached retina, that kept detaching, had 9 surgeries From February 2007 to April 2008. I refuse to have more, just makes my eye droop and I can see quite well out of the left eye! In fact vision has improved with mega dosing Beta Carotene!

TOO funny Kally!!! Sounds like me - My two year old can order my iced coffee for me!! I think I may have to add the people at Dunkin Donuts onto my Christmas card list because I see them more than most of my family:p

HAHAHA! I'm ROTFL because the girls were doing that when they were about 2 too! I remember calling Jay hysterically laughing/crying because they were playing with their toy kitchen and one of them goes: "Can I have medium frent tanilla ice coffee, wif skim milk and four specials (Splenda)" HAHA :D Too funny. Maybe if you send them a Christmas card they'll send you one (maybe with a gift card inside?!?!) hehe....

I'm Lili and I'm 30.
I was diagnosed at 27 (or misdiagnosed, rather).
My husband and I have been together 13 years.
I'm not a parent but have one cat.
I've been a vegetarian for 15 years.
I'm a librarian, but right now I'm consulting for a large software company.
Doctors tend to do a double take when seeing me for the first time after reading my file.
I am rather bad at expressing myself online even though I spend a lot of time there. I tend to give people the wrong impression.
I am very shy.
Our housemate has had Type 1 for 26 years, which is how I ever found out I had diabetes. I might still be undiagnosed otherwise.
I like reading, watching movies, listening to music playing Scrabble (how's that for generic).
I overuse parentheses.

I am Jamie.
I am a mom to 4 great kiddos, as you can probably tell by my SN. :p
I am also a full time student working towards an Associates degree in Business Arts. Someday I will pick a major, and go for a Bachelors degree :o
I love spending time with my kiddos. It does not really matter what we do, we can always have fun. I am a big kid at heart, and do things most adults tell their children not to do. One prime example is I will pad the bottom of the stairs (so no one will get hurt) and we'll break out the sleeping bags and I'll slide down with my kids, or sometimes we all take flashlights out and turn off all of the lights, and play hide and go seek in the dark. I think the most irritating thing I do is chase my kids through the house while we scream like wild people. In fact, that's how I tuck them into bed. We have races, or I chase them up the stairs while threatening to tickle them.
Some of my stress reducers (which I don't spend enough time doing) are baking, knitting, and various forms of sewing. I love to learn about new things, and I'll try almost anything (legal, and moral) at least once, with the exception of some gross sounding foods, but then again I have tried smoked eel, so maybe I'll go further someday, and be more daring.

Sometimes I post a lot, sometimes I lurk, and sometimes I don't even come to CWD, but CWD is the one site I consider a cut above the rest as far as diabetes information goes, and the parents here are also amazing. :cwds:

I have always lived in Iowa, not always the same town, and will probably die here, too.
NASCAR is on the t.v. in our home all weekend every weekend.
I have 2 cats, Clyde and Cleo.
I want to get a puppy someday to raise and train to be a therapy dog. I am really excited about doing that when I have time to devote to it.
I enjoy a nice glass of wine now and then.
I love cross stitch.
I am really, really boring, as you can tell by my description. :o

You know I know that you are not invisible. I think you're a great friend and a wonderful mother. It's funny, the super power that I wished for on a previous thread was to be invisible. Ha! I do hope I get to see you again soon!

Amy

Thanks Amy. Maybe I'm just being too sensitive? Probably.

I hope to see you again soon too. I don't want to get kicked out of the Mom's group. I swear I'm going to get involved again!

Hey everyone!

I'm Claire.
I'm 39 and I have 5 kids, so I don't get on here as much as I would like.
My husband is Adam and our kids are 17, 13, 10, 7 and 2.
I don't post much, but I love to read all of your posts.
I don't feel ignored, so much as anonymous, like no one really knows me. But, I will start making an effort to get to know all of you!

I am a 29 yr old stay at home mom.
LOVE my husband...more than when married 6 years ago;)
I have 3 children....had 3 in 3 1/2 years!
My life is mostly crazy and I couldn't imagine having another job right now.
I am a nurse by trade and hope to return to school and work one day.
I'm fairly new to CWD forums and came in search of a Neonatal D forum.
My baby, Jakob, now 9 months, was dx'd @ 9 weeks.
Those were the worst days of my life...the doctors thought we'd lose him:(
There isn't ONE day that goes by that I don't think about that (above) and I cherish my children now, more than ever!
My two toddler girls drive me crazy most days.
I love Jesus and follow Him!!!
Sometimes I feel guilty because Jakob isn't pumping, or even on Insulin....he's on Glyburide and our lives have calmed down considerably....relating to D!
The guilty feeling comes in when I read everyone else's trials with D and Jakob is doing AMAZING!
I love getting out from time to time...mommy's NEED it desperately:p
Thanks for getting to know me a bit!

Hi I'm Judy
I'm 44
I won the lottery when it comes to husbands. He is amazing I love him crazy!!! We have been married 21 years.
We have four awesome kids!!!!!!!
Taylor,19
Kayla,16
Brittany,11
Allison,10
We have two old dogs-(Golden Retrievers) Madison, 15 and Dolly,11. Madison needs to go to heaven but we can't do it, so we are waiting on God's timing.

My husband and I love to travel but are finding it hard to get away without the kids now due to Alli's dx.

I love summer, and love the beach. To us it is not a vacation unless there is sand and sunshine. I have made beach bums out of all my children.

My husband travels alot so I am usually everyone's everything most of the time.

I have had the same best friend since the 9th grade. Omg that is almost 30 years.

I am the most blessed woman on the planet!

Hi,

I'm Barbie (I don't look like the doll and I never owned one of those things!)
I'm 46. I miss being 45 & 11/12ths.
I've been married to Brett for 16 years, I like to introduce him as my 1st husband to keep him on his toes.
We have 2 boys, Alex 18 with D and Neal 11 nonD.
Alex is in college in Oregon. We live in VA.
I'm a family child care provider and will be one until I retire (early, I hope).
My hobby is scrapbooking. (the one plus of Alex being gone is that his room can now be a scrapbooking room!)
I guess I'm a soccer mom but I'd rather be a rugby mom (but my boys have only been able to play rugby for 2 summers b/c it's not a big enough sport here).
I've lived in DE, NY, VA, and MA.
The only other country I've been in so far is Canada and that was just to go from Buffalo to Detroit. But we're going to Haiti in the Spring. I'd like to go to Ireland, Italy and Australia eventually.
I get all my news from the Daily Show and The Colbert Report. (I actually graduated from W&M with Jon Stewart with the same majors as he had but I don't remember him.....the college years were very fuzzy.)
I am really, really bad at Guitar Hero, but my son and his friends are amazed that not only do I know who Aerosmith is but I've met one of them.
I hate D and I hope we have a cure soon.
I post some but don't have personal experience with young children with D... just lots of experience with young children and personal experience with a teen with D.
I'm looking forward to a rainy (Hanna) weekend so I can set up my scrapbooking stuff in Alex's bedroom.

Jacob'sDad
09-04-2008, 10:56 PM
I'm Dave.

Married to Tammy for 15 years. It hasn't always been easy but we keep moving forward and were in this together as a team.

We have three kids and Jacob is the youngest. All three have been a challenge. In many ways Jacob is the easiest. We love them all just the way they are though; they are all very special and unique. It's never boring!

I am a machinist by trade. I am what they call a utility guy. When they need something made, fixed, modified right away, I'm often the one they come too. It seems like I can never get one thing done before I am pulled of it to work on something else.

I take most of the responsibility for Jacob's D care because I am good at it. I have a good head for numbers and patterns. Tests I have taken show that pattern recognition is one of my biggest strengths (what is the next number in this sequence?).

I am an avid bowler although I think I'm starting to slow down in my old age.;). I averaged about 215 last season. I have bowled 300. I've bowled 300 on the Wii too, more than once. I have bowled 300 on the Wii throwing the ball pretty straight and also hooking the ball from the right gutter.

I don't have a large group of close friends and I don't really hang out with groups (except this group!). One on one I consider myself to be a very good friend. I take friendship seriously. I wish I could meet more of you in person.

I have a very analytical side but I have an emotional side too. I think I have a split personality.

I have a twisted sense of humor. I probably find too many things funny.

Anyway, enough about me. It's great reading about all y'all. Who's next?

Im Becky:)

Im old! 48 in a couple weeks. Not as old as Ellen though LOL

Im 1 of 8 children and have lost both of my folks

Have always lived in northeast CT and love it

I have a tatoo of a hummingbird on my back and would love to get more tatoos but to be honest, they do hurt, alot actually, like someone scraping your skin with a hot knife. But the endorphins kick in after awhile and its not so bad

Have had many jobs, bartender, DJ at 3 area bars, picked mushrooms (not THOSE kind!) worked at a daycare, worked for the state dept of environmental protection, lastly, worked at a lab for 10 years. We did avian research there (chickens are soooo fascinating LOL)

Now Im a stay at home Mom of 2 real neat boys. Harry my oldest wants to be a forensic scientist Steven my guy with d is into fireworks and explosives (yeah I know, makes me a bit nervous too;) )

I love to read and read something everyday (besides forums and FB)
I also love birdwatching, gardening, identifying wildflowers ( there are over 40 of them within a mile radius) And shopping especially antiguing, and flea marketing. I love to bring home more junk so that I can look at it after a couple weeks and think that I will bring it to sell at the flea market someday:o

I have found a kinship with the people that make up CWD. I have found people from all over the world, from every walk of life that share a common bond with me and I am ever so greatful:cwds:

Hi, I am Jerrilyn mom to three ten yr old dtr and 8yr old twin boys, fraternal youngest dx jan 2009, Hit me like a ton of bricks no family history, I also am a nurse, so new exactly what this dx meant, too much information, not always a good thing. Got a golden retriever puppy 2weeks prior to dx, saved my life in some ways , at least my sanity. hate diabetes, wish research would hurry up in a big way. We are all active hockey lacrosse softball, holiday in okanogan bc during summer, love the sunshine makes everything in life so much more bearable, not enough of it to much rain in vancouver. Going to research seminar in vancouver next week. Pumping with mm 522 since last june, still honeymoon we think? spent 2 weeks eating with no boluses twice now just low rate basal loved those weeks. Worry all the time, sleep almost never, disneyland in 3weeks first trip nervous big time.

Hi, I'm Kathy...

Becky thinks she's old?? Well, I'm 49, the big 5-0 in exactly 2 weeks!

Married to hubby Jack for 22 years:eek: Hubby is a stay at home dad! Hurt his back, 4 years ago, and hasnt been able to go back to construction since. Now, I don't mind that he's home; if DS needs him, he can be at school in 7 mins flat (probably sooner)!

I am really very shy; I like to post here mainly to offer support.

People tell me I am a "yes" girl - I volunteer for EVERYTHING!

I work full time and have had the same employer for 28 years - I am an administrative assistant in a Big 6 accounting firm.

I am one of four girls. My youngest sister is T1D diagnosed in 1985. My parents are still with us, tho Dad (88) suffers from Alzheimers. My sisters and I take turns helping Mom (83) care for him.

I am addicted to CWD since I found it. My DS hates my "screen name" says it makes him sound like he's 3 yrs old! ;) I love FB too, but not as much as this site!

I love to bake. I love to read. I could live in a library and I'd be a very happy gal.

Mom to two awesome kids - Jess who plays JV fastpitch for school and who has this awesome photographic memory; and DS (dx 12/09) wants to be a Florida Gator when he gets to college; or an astronaut:(

When DS was diagnosed, I think I had a mini breakdown. If it weren't for DH, I don't know what I would have done - I was truly a mess. But, I'm back to me now.:D I am so thankful to all of you here, for helping me through some extremely tough times.

Ha, I think I wrote too much!!:D

My parents are my best friends (next to DH).
I hate the hot summers in Las Vegas - mostly because I love to wear sweaters and jeans more than shorts and t-shirts.
I'm a huge NASCAR fan - Go Tony Stewart!
I need to lose weight - and exercise. Just can't get motivated enough to start.
For the last 13 years I have worked as an underwriter for a subsidiary of United HealthCare...yes, a Big Bad Insurance Company.
I love to read, but have not found the time to get back into reading. I must have a dozen books waiting on a shelf.
I think about Kathy and her diabetes all the time - try to analyze every number, every trend, every low/high. It consumes my thoughts and is the topic of conversation 90% of the time.
I have very few real "friends."
I am hestitant to try anything I'm not comforable with, and if I don't try, I usually regret it!

I'm 31, married 7 yrs, together 12
My 3 children constantly amaze me, sometimes I feel that I learn more from them than they do from me
Nervous poster here also, I never come across quite right- I'm hopelessly socially awkward in life and in writing...
I'm a klutz and I have the bruises to prove it :o
My sense of humor is sarcastic without the snark but I'm not being sarcastic when I say I'm not snarky :p
I'm from the mountains but currently living in the prairies :(
I love animals, books, 4x4ing, driving, laughing, extreme weather and homemade wine :)
I like being outdoors and working with my hands
I work part-time in construction, insulating houses
I'm chicken of almost everything so I feel it's necessary to push the boundaries of my comfort zone
I'm not all that good at being a pancreas yet but I'm learning...
I don't know WHAT I would do without this website!!!!

Kayla and Ethan's Mom
04-14-2010, 03:19 PM
Hi, my name is Ann.

I'm a 36 SAHM.

I've been married to Dave for 12 years. Wow!

Born and raised in Northwestern part of Michigan, never thought I'd move, but had to due to the economy.

Been here in SC for 2 1/2 years now and absolutely loving it!

Really miss my mom whose house has been up for sale since we left. She wants to move here.

Amazed every day at Kayla and the way she deals with D! Constantly worried that Ethan will develope it.

Love to help people out, always wish I could do more.

Am forever taking in strays or other peoples cats and dogs. Amazingly we only have 2 dogs and 2 cats of our own. Keeping someones dog now and don't want to give her back, she's skin and bones!

Really shy and unsure of myself, but I've really had to over come that moving to a place where we knew no one!

Don't post a whole lot but trying to participate more. Sometimes feel like I'm not "in" enough to respond to or what I've said is dumb.:(

Animal cruelty and neglect infuriate me!

I love frozen margaritas!! Give me some chips and salsa and a few frozen margaritas and I'm a very happy camper!:D

I love coming to CWD and have learned soooo much here! I'm on reading several times a day and not afraid to admit it.

Don't have a lot of friends in SC, I'm slow making them but when I do they last a lifetime.

And I'll stop babbling now!:)

Ok, I've never been mistaken for Brad Pitt. I'm generally an honest person, so I'll start again.

I'm a few months away from 2 score and 10
I've been happily married to my sweetheart for 22 years
We met New Years eve, our first date was Friday the 13th (making it easy to remember the dates)
I have two boys, 12 and 10 yrs old
I'm not much of a talker

My dad talked me into becoming a Civil Engineer, but

I have lots of opinions.
I've been married for 7 years to my very patient husband, and have two weird, funny kids.

I am Bobbi
I just turned 40
I have 5 children, Tiffany-20, Mark-13,Mary-9, John (D)-6 and Billy-4
I am a SAHM for a couple reasons. I really love it (well most of the time) couldn't afford to go to work when I would of had 2 in daycare. I worked for Waffle House for over 9 years with breaks in between when I had each kid. Then I got diagnosed with a rare breast cancer @ 3 years ago. I have had every type of chemo out there and 35 rounds of radiation. John was dx'd my last day of chemo. I have had a double masectomy and reconstruction. I am in pain everyday but I keep going because I am not ready to go yet.
I have been married twice. DH and I have been together for 18 years and married 16 years in May. He is 14 years older than me and I love him with all my heart.
I love boating, fishing, camping, reading, crochet, and big trucks and motorcyles. DH won't keep a motorcycle around because I keep bugging him to teach me to ride one. I also love four wheeling.
I am not very talkative when I first meet someone and it takes me a while to actually carry on a conversation.
I will help anyone that I can and get taken advantage sometimes when I do.
I hold my temper well most of the time but don't cross me to much becasue then you won't like what you see.
Don't do anything wrong to my kids because this is the one thing that I don't hold my temper back on.
I try to be honest about everything can't stand to be lied to.
I am a good listner and will not give an opinion unless you want mine.
I am very sensitive and take things to heart alot.
I worry all the time about everything.
I am loud when I talk.
I love the country but live in the city and hate it.
I love cats.
I love winnie the pooh and teddy bears.
I have one best friend but we don't get together much anymore. She is always on the go with her work and her 4 kids. We have been BF since high school.
I don't have anyone to hang out with.
I don't go out much and don't feel comfortable going to groups that I don't know anyone so I can't meet anyone new.
I love CWD I have gotten so much support here most of it is good and some I have taken to heart the wrong way. I would have lost it along time ago if I didn't find this place because everyone here is the only ones that get it. I have no one else to share with but CWD.
Now that sums up about my life.

I'm Paula.
I just turned 47 (how did that happen?)
I have 4 kids (23, 19, 17, 13).
I'm a SAHM and have been homeschooling since 1991.
I've been married for almost 28 years.
I am very introverted. Put me in a group of people and I won't say a word.
It takes me forever to decide if I should post and then forever to figure out
what to say.
I always wanted to be a nurse. Never got to nursing school, but my youngest has certainly provided enough medical problems for me.
I live in CT in the country, but would prefer to have a nice long driveway where I couldn't see any neighbors (although I can barely see the 2 I do have).
I don't have any hobbies. I took piano lessons a few years ago, but life got
in the way. I always say I'd like to get back to it, but never seem to do
it.
I guess that's enough for now.

redcurls3

I'm Christy
I have two kids with a rare type of diabetes
I'm very logical, rational, and scientifically minded so I spend WAY too much time on the internet researching their disease.
I tend to talk a lot and will tell anyone I meet about their disease if they are interested (I guess my own way of spreading awareness).
I am a teacher, but wasn't able to get a job this year.
I move A LOT so I tend to tell my life story within about 5 minutes of meeting you (hazards of the lifestyle).
I had hobbies in a previous life (pre-babies) of photography, scrapbooking, crocheting, crafts, reading. I hope to one day take up some of these hobbies again.
I can't seem to stop going to school. I'm currently one course away from getting my Master's in education and plan to start working toward a PhD in genetics so I can join research on my kids disease.
My son is developmentally delayed due to his rare form of diabetes so he is very challenging at times, but very sweet too.
My husband is totally obsessed with anything having to do with airplanes (thus my son had not choice in the matter as he was exposed to airplane sounds in-utero :) )
I'm in the process of writing a book about our lives with this rare disease.

I decided to post an update too!

My name is Kiersten.
I am 19 years old.
I was diagnosed with diabetes when I was 14. I will "celebrate" my 5 year diaversarry in December.
I am a freshman in college.
I am majoring in psychology so I can work with kids who have autism.
I babysit a little boy who has autism and his cousin has it. They are the reason that I want to work with autistic kids.
I am still short
I am addicted to facebook.
I am a huge procrastinator.
My sister is pregnant so I am going to be an aunt again and I am sooo excited!
My nieces and nephew are my world and I love them more than life itself!
I am painfully shy. Find it almost impossible to start a conversation with someone I don't know.
I go to a small college, there are no more than 600 students total. I wake up 15 minutes before class start and leave 5 minutes before class starts. It takes no more than 5 minutes to get from one side of campus to the other and I LOVE it that way.
I love college and I love living in a dorm, but I also really love home.
I HATE talking on the phone more than anything else.
I hate elevators and always choose the stairs.
I am afraid of all bugs and insects, except for lightning bugs and lady bugs.
Ants and stink bugs are the worse.
I really HATE diabetes, and I cant wait until there is a cure.

~ I'm Karen
~ I'm not telling how old I am - lol.
~ I am married to the most amazing man who can make me laugh out loud just with a look. He is truly my best friend.
~ I had 4 kids in 5 years with twins thrown in the middle - just to liven things up. :p
~ I couldn't have planned my family better. I am grateful every day that I share this journey with the five of them.
~ I have a business degree and worked on Bay Street and then in ad agencies before kids. That seems like a lifetime ago.
~ Now I am a reincarnated hippie, a passionate homeschooler, budding peace activist, naturalist/environmentalist and wannabe urban homesteader.
~ Homeschooling my kids is the most fun thing I could do. I can't believe I get to do this everyday.
~ When my kids are grown I want to be a Raging Granny, and go back to university to do the fun stuff I missed while doing my business degree.
~ I think real education is the way to change the world.
~ I love knitting socks, making CP soap, sewing and cooking from scratch.
~ I don't go anywhere without my camera.
~ I think diabetes was a gift to our family in many ways. I would still rather it was me than my daughter, but I don't hate it.
~ I have amazing girlfriends.
~ I blog on all kinds of topics - photography, activism with kids, homeschooling.
~ My favourite ways of exercising are hiking and biking which we do pretty much daily, and canoeing and swimming - so glad summer is almost here.
~ My ILs are the best grandparents my kids could ask for.
~ I love a good debate but it needs to be based in logic and fact, not be personal and there always has to be room for humour and kindness.
~ I'm a socially liberal, proud Canadian UU who often votes Green. That's why Nick (BrensDad) and I get along so well. :p

I met my husband in Argentina where we were both serving LDS missions
We've been married just over 6 years and he's still the best thing to ever happen to me
DH is a first-year teacher, so I'm pretty much a single mom except on weekends
Our children are 4, 3, 1 and 2/3 baked
It's a wonder I'm still sane
Actually, I'm crazy.
In my past life, I taught 5th grade
I love reading children's chapter books
I'm going to be 30 soon
I've cloth diapered all my kids and get a kick out of how much money that's saved us.
Hobbies include nose-wiping, diaper-changing, floor-mopping, laundry-washing and trying new recipes, because that's all I've got time for.
We go camping a lot as a family

My name is Coni. I'm 48 years old.
I have three kids - a 20 year old step-son (who can't seem to wear his pants so his underwear doesn't show), a 12 year old daughter (who dyes her hair black and plays the drums), and a 7 year old daughter (who is part Cherokee and really, really looks it).
I grow bamboo, orchids, and cacti.
We have two Newfoundlands.
I used to be a lawyer, now I teach Legal Studies at a private college.
I have a very dry sense of humor, and many people do not know when I'm joking.
I'm very introverted and slightly quirky.
My first husband was Czech, and I love Czech culture - Pilsner Urquell beer, Vaclav Havel, Prague, crystal and glass, etc.
I could live without diabetes in our household, but we're doing fine, and it's been a blessing in disguise in many strange ways.

Not much has changed. Everything is still correct, with a few edits.

I am about to turn 20
I still work at the same place
I am no longer on MDI, but I pump with the MM522, and I am "Dexing" with the CGMS
I am now the Aunt of five beautiful kids
I am still undecided about what to Major in...I am just enjoying the experience
I want to go on a backbacking trip around the World. I'll start with Europe;)
I feel out of place in the city, I love having 'space'

My name is Danielle
I am 18 years old
I was diagnosed with T1 in April...currently on MDI Lantus, and Humalog
I am the youngest of five kids(18-coming 36)...have two of the best parents in the world
Aunt of the 4 greatest kids around
I work part-time(Patient Access Rep), go to school part-time(undecided what to really major in at this point)
I love my animals(horses, dogs you name it)
I enjoy reading, and will pick up any good books
I am new to CWD, and try to put input in where I feel I can help. I don't like to step on people's toes often, so I usually just read what others say
I love to laugh, and thus...love making others laugh.
I am a photography nut, I also love putting videos together
I can be quiet until someone else breaks the ice
Once you break the ice, you can't shut me up(....;))

Lastly, and of course the most important one.

I am a KEITH URBAN addict:D

Wow, what a fascinating thread.

I'm Cheri and turned 36 yesterday.
I grew up in Florida but live in North Carolina now.
I hate the cold.
I am married to my best friend, we have known each other since we were 12, when my dad started dating his mom. (I can just see the looks on your faces!) They have been married 4 years longer than us.
I'm a midwife, not practicing now because I am learning to be a pancreas but still passionate about it.
I love homeschooling my 8 children.
My soon to be 18 yo daughter is my next best friend. She is wickedly funny like her dad and a blast to be around. She keeps me sane.
Being a mom is the best thing in the world.
No tattoos here, I can't handle permanent decisions. Notice the 8 kids :D
I love gardening, reading, cooking and being self-sustaining.
I often nurse my baby while reading CWD:)
Maura has been dxd for 9 months and while we are doing great, lately I am really struggling with depression and feeling overwhelmed by life.
I am insecure about posting and have a hard time choosing my words.
I am really sensitive.
In real life I have no problems so I don't know where this weird online personality comes from.
I am extremely grateful for this forum and all I have learned here.
Although I am sad for it, I am comforted that I am not alone in the journey.

Update time, huh...

What's new?

FrizzyFrazz stills posts what I usually am about to say...

I have lost all of my cockiness about T1 - somedays, it defeats me
I post much less then I used to...passing the torch so to speak
I lost my Dad this January due to a very preventable form of cancer. If you have heartburn, take your meds, do not put it off. Not to be a downer, just want to raise awareness of a rare but preventable form of cancer
I am a pretty chipper person
I carry small things in my bra when I go out so I don't loose them, much to the amusement and teasing of my friends
I hate my cat

Hi - I am Becky

Lee is my middle name
Single Mom and I loves it!
I am an Internal Trainer at a Software Company
I am a Devil's Advocate - I can either any side of an argument, and I often root for the underdog...
I often think that Michelle (FrizzyFrazzy) posses the other half of my brain

I'm Stephanie.
I'm 45.
I've lived in Maryland all of my life, currently in Howard County.
I've been happily married for 20 years and we have two wonderful boys.
I graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of MD - hence, my screen name! - but I gave it up to stay home with my boys. For the last four years, I've taught preschool. :)
I lurk here often, but I don't post too much because I'm not sure I have anything new to offer.
Both of my boys love music and theater. My husband and I have become theater afficienados because of them.
I'm gaining several gray hairs each day dealing with my 17 year old high school senior. He's a great kid, but he knows everything! ;)

After reading this, I realize I do have a couple of edits to make!

* Matt graduated from HS and is finishing his first year in the Rouse Scholars program at HCC. He's an Elementary Education major, following in the footsteps of his grandfather, uncle and me. :)

*Connor is finishing up middle school and will be headed to HS in the fall. He was selected for the Symphonic Band, so we'll be marching band parents again!

*I have a 10-month old grandson named Jacob. We certainly didn't expect to be grandparents at this stage in our lives, but he is a delight and we can't imagine life without him now.

*We'll be celebrating our 22nd anniversary in May. It's gone by so fast!

I am 47 years old -- probably the old lady of the forums (or at least the oldest who'll admit it)
I'm an American born in N.J. -- still have a typical "Joisey" accent
I've been married for almost 19 years
I live in Ghana, West Africa with my husband and our 3 kids
All of my family is in the U.S. -- I miss them all terribly, mostly my mom and sis :(
I used to work in finance, doing all kinds of boring things
Now I do freelance writing, and like it a lot better
I've got a very quirky sense of humor :p
I like a beer once in a while (like now)
I love to read, pretty much anything I can get my hands on
I love to cook (cause I love to eat)
I don't post too often, cause I'm a thread killer though this one should survive, since I put some juju on the computer just before I started typing

I figured I'd update, too; pretty much all the same except....

49 now, enjoying my last year as a 40-something
Just celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary last December -- we've had ups and downs, but mostly ups, so all is good :D
I am horribly (depressingly) homesick, but we're coming on vacation in July so I will make it :)
I don't drink beer anymore -- it gives me a migraine. :(
I haven't read a good book in ages, will replenish my stock in July
Am addicted to my Nintendo DS and the card games on it -- who knew I could play bridge and spades! And win!
I am on Facebook way too much. :o

-Married for almost 10 years (August) and loving it :)
-I love to travel, especially to the beach, but don't get to as often as I'd like
-I love to shop
-I'm still scared of the dark and don't like to stay home alone :o

-I love girl's night out, especially when frozen margaritas are involved :D
-I've lived in Virginia all my life and can't imagine living anywhere else
-I hate veggies, but I'm trying to do better
-I enjoy scrapbooking, but don't do it very often
-Recently starting taking Zumba classes and love it!
-I work 4 days/week and enjoy having Fridays off with my little man -- my hat is off to all the SAHM's, I used to think I wanted to do that, but really don't think I have the patience.
-I love meeting other parents of CWD and love this site!

I'm Bobbi and proud to say I'm from NJ (South Jersey so no accent).
I believe in God and love my country.
I've been married to Paul for 16+ years and have two wonderful boys Jacob(15) and Aaron (almost 9).
My husband serves in the United States Coast Guard so we have moved around a lot.
We currently live in VA and I feel right at home.
I have a BS in Criminal Justice but decided to be a SAHM. Best and most rewarding job I've ever had.
I love people and make friends easily. I have to have neighbors so no country for me.
No one in my house is shy.
I am definitely a Miller Lite kind of gal.
I do not lie and I have to look people in the face when I talk to them.
I like things neat and clean but not OCD.
I love WaWa coffee and my favorite snack foods are Cool Ranch Doritos.
I am very old school with certain things. I still balance my checkbook by hand and make rough drafts for everything (yes I made a rough draft for this post:).
I have a whole list of pet peeves and I can't stand stupidity!
I do not play video games but enjoy watching tv.
I am thankful for this forum and try to learn something new from it everyday.

I'm Wilf. Been on here for about 2 1/2 years. Hooked after the first lurk, took me a few weeks to post. Some things that might be true about me:
- my mother was a hamster and my father smelt of elderberries*
- I'm a nature boy, grew up on the edge of the woods, and am never happier than when outside running, hiking, birdwatching, cutting wood, playing with kids
- I'm fairly serious when posting on CWD, except when I'm not
- I'm fairly crazy when posting elsewhere, except when I'm not
- I enjoy most music, but not country or disco (favorites incl. the B-52s, Mozart, Peter Gabriel, Bach, Shawn Colvin, Green Day, and the Tragically Hip)
- I've dreamt of being the love pet of the gals in ABBA*
- I love sci-fi books, and Harlequin romances*
- I'm both a scientist and a technopeasant (which makes no sense, but there you have it)
- I'm short*, blond*, pudgy*, and very shy*
- my brain is wired in a strange way that makes both analysis of D management questions and composition of limericks fairly easy
- I love kids, can connect easily, and love playing with them (my own or others)
- I'm like a brain surgeon when I wield my chainsaw (no job too tricky)
- I'm a Quaker
- I've been known to drink beer and eat salty foods
- I love sailing Lasers and canoeing
- I'm Canadian, Doug and Bob McKenzie are my heroes, and I love it when we beat the US in hockey

*I've been alive for 17 years and 159 days.
*I like numbers more than people. ;)
*I timetable every day before I go to bed (except days which are the same as another day and then I use the old timetable) and I've done that since I was about 6, except then I used to stick the timetables on my bedroom wall and.. I don't do that anymore.
*I secretly (secretly to real life people, not online) want to be a philosophy teacher when I'm older but I stutter when I talk in public and I'm scared I won't be able to.
*I seem to gravitate unintentionally towards other LGBT people.
*I get addicted to mundane television programmes and watch the same episode over and over again.
*I hate going to the hairdressers.
*I want to be a mom more than anything else in the world. When I was younger I wanted to have 13 children. Now.. I'll settle for 2 or 3. :p

I'm Lisa
I post in spurts on CWD, have been on the forum for years, but will go weeks without checking in, and then read daily for a while...depending on what's going on in my life, how much free time I have and what's going on with diabetes in our family.

Until last month, we had one child with D, and thought of myself as "mom of toddler at dx and now 7yo"....then our eldest was dx at age 22. Suddenly I'm thrown into a world I thought we had another 10 years to prepare for. He's at college 7 hours away, lives in a frat house, has a typical up late and sleeping late college-kid schedule, and I'm helping him learn to count carbs, and figure out how to safely drink in moderation with diabetes.

I'm a former RN, used to work in ICU and then L&D. Most people think that gave me an edge in taking care of my D kids, but not at all. I had a total of one patient with diabetes way back in college, and that was the "dark ages" of testing urine to see how much sliding scale insulin they needed. A world of difference between that and what we all live with on a daily basis, right?

We have 7 kids, not a blended family, all mine and all his, and I gave birth to all of them.....can you tell we get these questions a lot, lol.

I'm shy at first, but then very outgoing to close friends.
I love to read..very eclectic tastes, everything from biographies, popular fiction, religion, politics, etc
I'm an Air Force brat married to a Navy brat. Neither one of us has a hometown.
I have a BSN (bachelor of science in nursing) from BSU (Ball State Univ).
I hate clutter and mess, but can never seem to conquer them in my own home.
I hated the taste of coffee and didn't drink it until I was 30yo, but now I drink it twice a day. Homemade mocha...yummmm.
I love popcorn and eat some almost every day.

I'll add to the thread.. think I missed it the first time around anyway.

Kaycee here and I'm ...35 lol dang, I had to figure out the math to answer that
I'm SAHM to 3 kids- Kaitrinn (9), Shealyn (6), and Mr. Gavin grumpy-butt (3 later this week)
Been with Louie, IBMer and physics/computer geek (and proud of it), for 14 yrs
My father has lived with us for 10 of those yrs.. due to health problems
I love photography and scrapbooking. They go well together! :)
Our zoo is slowly shrinking ... now have only 3 cats, 2 guinea pigs, and 2 tadpoles and I'm NOT allowing any more lol
I grew up in Wisconsin (definitely a cheesehead) but am now just outside of Raleigh, NC
I've moved over 20 times in my life. I HATE moving
However, I'd love to just sell the house and travel/RV it for awhile.
I'm all about decluttering and simplifying and my family is much happier (and better behaved LOL :p) since the change
My kids are my life and I'm having a hard time coming up with anything about me that doesn't involve them
I sometimes miss working but have no idea what I would "DO" if I returned to the workforce.
I love the outdoors, but sunburn just thinking about going outside
I'm quite confused as to why my kids are singing "Frosty the Snowman" and "Let it Snow" on this beautiful 70 degree April Day (oops there goes my kids again)

I'm Francesca, I didn't take my husbands name and my MIL hates me for it.
I live in Auckland, New Zealand (and debs doesn't live in the middle of nowhere - all of NZ is the middle of nowhere!)
I don't post as much as I used to because i've decided that i'm really rather good at this diabetes stuff at the mo:D.
I also find it sad that there is so much fighting on this board:mad:. There wasn't when i first started posting but then again it was early days for CWD back then.
I really believe there will be a cure for this disease but I don't think they'll every figure out how you get it. I'm holding out for smart insulin whilst they work on it.
Ivan is nearly 9 and can't remember life without this.
Myles is 5.5 and can't remember life without his brother being D.
I think D has made me closer with my son.
I've learned that there is no wrong way/waste of time in the different methods of treatment for D. If it works for you, then it works for you.
This site saved my sanity in the early days and I've met some really nice people.
I have a really messy house and don't let most people past the front door (couldn't make it all about D could I)

My name is Natalie - I am 38 years young:D

I am married to my very best friend in the world - I am a very lucky woman!

I have 4 children - 3 boys ages 14, 12 and 9 and my baby girl is 19 months (no, she was not an accident -she is my "I really want a girl - I thought the feeling would go away with time, but it hasn't, so can we PLEASE try one more time?" baby!)

I have been a stay-at-home mom for over 14 years and I love it. I have no desire whatsoever to go back to work - I honestly don't know how working moms do it all!

I feel very overwhelmed every single day since my son's dx

I miss having time to do my hobbies - reading, redecorating (esp. painting - I LOVE to paint!) and taking LONG walks by myself (sigh)

I LOVE CWD - yes, I think I may be addicted - but in my defense, I want to learn as much as I possibly can, and this is a GREAT forum!:cwds:

My family moved here when I was 3, and I have lived within 5 miles of here ever since! I currently live in the town I graduated high school in - my oldest starts high school there in the fall:eek:

Both my and my husband's families all live within 20 minutes of us. In fact, my husband's family all live on the same street as us:eek: (my in-laws live in an in-law apt in our home...I don't recommend it:()

I have always been known as a "goody-two-shoes" and I don't like to "rock the boat":o
