We had our JDRF walk yesterday.. it went great.. we had alot of lows of course, but we are working thur them... We ran into BETH there.. yeah.. she saved us with water.... We where at the end of the 23,700 walkers and they ran out of water along the rout.. and only had diet sodas... THANK you Beth for being our savors.... WE are now gettting ready to do a school walk at charlize school on the 11/17/06... this one is for ada.... so what we did was allens family and some friends donated to jdrf. and my family is donating to her walk at school.. this way we get to help both org. its just had when both are in the same month....

We are still batteling the lows.. they are getting a bit unpredictibale and i am really not liking them.. We are still at 45/1 carb ratio and only running at .10 basals or less... WE batteled several lows through out day.. but they where only about 80-90's... WE had one hard one.. dinner bs was at 85... ate corn, bread, chicken and milk... about 25-30 carbs.. gave no correctin for this at all.... 10 min later ate brownies 40 carbs.. bolused for that.,.. low 30 min later at 97... acting like she was crashing hard.. gave a whole cup of milk and 1 glucosed tablet.... stilll has IOB... waited 15 minutes to recheck adn she is now at 61...   .. so gave 1 more tablet and waited 15 min... now she was at 75.. going up.. decided to wait it out... 20 later 105.. woo hoo.. we are above 100... kids stayed at grandparents last night... got call at midnight.. blood sugar 415.. .. they corrected and so far have not heard anything since.. must have been good night other than high... OH i cant wait till our endo appointment on tuesday so they can help me more with this whole thing with ehr producing more insulin again for the 3rd time.......

That is really odd, maybe the insulin is peaking before the food does? I have learned that with different foods, when Julia has different B/G's I need to adjust at what time the insulin is given so the peak, and food match up a bit better. Since you are pumping, maybe an extended bolus for a brownie would work better?

I know how frustrating it is trying to figure it out. We seem to go through something like this every few months as Julia's insulin needs seem to be ever changing.

Good job with the walk. I am glad you were able to find water to rehydrate with rather then soda. Good luck with the ADA walk, I am sure it will be tons of fun!

The walk was fabulous....couldn't have asked for better weather, and we got an email from JDRF last night saying that they were estimating 23,500 walkers and $1.9 million raised - WOO HOO! That makes the Phoenix walk the largest JDRF walk in the WORLD....

And Chandra and I and our little groups brought up the rear! :) It's a good place to be - no one pushing past you, getting to walk at your own pace - though they do run out of water and it's a little disconcerting when the policemen are picking up the traffic cones as you go past...:D

Poor Charlize looked like she was done in when we bumped into them - she was at 88, I think, and with all the excitement my DD was over 300 for most of the walk, even with shots given. GRRRR. Of course, she woke up at 68 this morning, but a couple of tabs kicked her right back up to 150.... I think Meghan is taking Charlize's share of glucose as well as her own.

Anyhow, it was a good day, and I for one am grateful for all the folks who came out to support our little darlings!

;)

Oh, here's a picture of Meghan and two of her pals; she was zooming ahead with some of the other people, so I couldn't get her with Charlize..

My pleasure....we learned the hard way last year (and all they had were apples, no diet cokes). It was worth dragging the wagon to have water when we needed it (and enough to share!) :)
Hope Charlize is feeling better today - one of the little guys that went with us yesterday is down sick with fever and headache. I'm hoping he just overdid it in the sun....
