Hi everyone,
I'm new to these forums, but have been Type 1 for 13 years. I run a support group for diabetics in and around the Brighton & Hove area (East Sussex) and as yet we haven't done that much to support children and their families. Until now that is.
When the issue of care in schools not being adequate enough came to light, I was shocked as I had experienced largely brilliant care from mine (although that was over ten years ago now!). Our local support group is hoping to work with the PCT and local council to improve awareness - we have links and we're a tenacious bunch!
We're holding an awareness evening including a talk from Dr Shankar Kanumakala on Tuesday 9th September at The New Madeira Hotel, Marine Parade, Brighton. The evening is open to everyone and we've even got a Nintendo Wii for the kids to play on before/after and a raffle. If you're anywhere near Brighton, do feel free to come along.
It'd also be interesting to hear your thoughts about past events that have worked well for you, if you run similar groups/talks etc.
Thanks a lot,
Alex
