Yesterday afternoon all of my kids were outside playing in the backyard. I was washing dishes and all of a sudden I heard screaming and crying. I ran outside and found my 5 year old DS laying on the ground who was crying so much that he could barely catch his breath. He had jumped off of the swings and fell square on his arm. He broke the radius and ulna straight through. He has to have it in a plaster cast for about 2 days for it to stabilize some and then has to go back for surgery on it after that then has to be in three other cast's for 4 weeks each. I have a pic of before they put the plaster cast on when it was still "distorted". I must warn you though it is a little graphic.

Poor kid! I hope he feels better soon. I don't want to sound unsympathetic, because I would never wish this on anyone, but I have to say, "cool pic!". I teach EMT students and this would be a great picture to show them what a broken bone(s) look like. Can I borrow it? I would blank out his face, of course.

Oh my....that looks just awful....poor little guy. I hope they gave him some good pain meds for that and maybe a stiff drink for you after all was taken care of.
wishing your little guy quick healing and lost of patience for you, I know I drove my mom up the wall when I had a cast as a kid.
Good luck

Oooh, poor baby! I hope he feels better soon. It's not fun having a cast, but kids seem to make the most of it, don't they!

Oh my goodness. Poor kiddo. I broke my arm when I was 8, but nothing like that. I hope everything goes smoothly and he heals quickly. The siblings had better be extra nice to him and if not tell him casts are very good weapons  I swear I didnt hit anybody
Here is an idea to make him feel a little better and more comfortable with surgery and doctor appointments. I received a letter from my gma with a teddy shortly after breaking my arm. Here is part of the letter:
Sending you this cute little teddy- you can give it a name-I put a pink ribbon cast on its left arm (fyi i had a pink cast on my left arm). The day the doctor takes the cast off your arm, you can take the cast off of the teddy's arm."
Get him a teddy, put a white "cast" on it. And a little note like what I got: Teddy can go to surgery, doctor appointments, and get new casts with him. I still have the teddy and letter :)
Get Well Soon Jake!!!

Holy cow, what a photo! I hope he feels better now.
I did the EXACT same thing when I was 4 years old--jumped out of a swing and broke my radius and ulna! I remember wearing the cast and having people sign it. It seemed to heal pretty quickly. Unlike when I was 38 and broke it AGAIN while roller-skating :o. That was in January and it's FINALLY getting back to normal!
