I am at the Children with Diabetes Friends for Life conference and there must be 100 grandparents here too.
WOWOWOW. It's an honor to meet each and every grandparent.

Betty Brackenridge has a new book out - can't wait to read it.

I can't believe I beat you to a resource!:D

It is a great book that will help a lot of people to understand. Say "howdy" to Betty for me.

Would this book be a good resource for a great aunt (young one) of a newly diagnosed little great niece? I know of someone. They would not be involoved in day to day care by any means, but they are a very close knit family. The little girl has just been admitted to ICU with a BG of over 900. :(

I think it would be an excellent first read for them.

Thanks! I think I'm going to order a book, read it myself, then maybe give it to them when I feel the time is right. I don't want to "push" it on them. To be honest it may be their only "read", but one never knows!

Draw Wide the Circle of Love: How to Unite Your Family in the Care of a Child with Diabetes.
By Betty Page Brackenridge, MS, RD, CDE. Published by Learning Prescriptions, 2008. 100 pages. Softcover, spiral bound. USD $13.95. ISBN-13: 978-0-9818142-0-9.

If you are a Grandparent, Aunt, Uncle or other important adult in the life of a child with diabetes, this book is for you. Especially if diabetes has in any way harmed your relationship with that child. Are you less close, less involved than you used to be, than you want to be? The goal of this book is to help you take as active a role as you ever had or would want to have in his or her daily life.

And, if you are the Parent of a child with diabetes and want or need more support and involvement from family and friends, this book is also for you. Based on the stories and experience of families living with diabetes, this book discusses the fears, communication problems and other barriers that compromise the family support system. More importantly, it offers practical guidance on how to overcome those very common challenges

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this book will fund scholarships for grandparents and other extended family members to attend the Children with Diabetes annual Friends for Life Conference.

we're coming next year with my parents in tow. They're very excited. :)

I am definitely going to check out her book too for the other grandparents.
