Hello! I have a 3 year old daughter who doctors keep telling me is fine. but I really don't think all is fine. her a1c was fine and no antiboties but her blood sugar was over 200 today. the other day it was 356. her fasting is averging 110 which I know is not really high but it is higher then normal. and she is have highs through out the day. any advice when the ped will not give a referral to an endo. I know i can control her diet and then control her blood sugar but then the doctors really don't listen. My husband says he does not care if they listen just control it our selfs while we can and we can no longer controle it then they will listen. this scares me. I want them to listen now. what should I do?

Did you use a home meter to measure the blood sugar or did the pediatrician use a meter? The readings you listed are on the high side.
The A1c test is not used to diagnose diabetes -- it is an average of the last three months of blood sugars and weighted more heavily on the last month.
On the CWD site is a chart that shows how diabetes is diagnosed. If you child is having symptoms: increase urination, lost weight -- these are a cause for concern.
Here is the site: http://www.childrenwithdiabetes.com/d_0n_010.htm that shows how diabetes is dx'd
Here are the symptoms of diabetes: http://www.childrenwithdiabetes.com/clinic/signs.htm.
You didn't say if your daughter has any of the above symptoms. If you can provide these symptoms to your pediatrician, he may send you to an endo.
If you daughter is Type 1, her blood sugar cannot be controlled with diet only. Insulin is necessary.
If you suspect something is wrong, you need to be persistent. Your daughter may or may not have diabetes, but may have something else amiss.

Well, the fact that she doesn't have antibodies for type 1 is good! But her blood sugar shouldn't be going that high. How do they suggest you control her blood sugar? Limiting carbs in a small child isn't recommended by anyone, and if your dr is suggesting this, then I'd say go around him/her. Call your insurance company and demand that you get a referral to an endo.
Good luck.

here is why I am so confused. no one is telling me anything. the only thing I hear is she is not diabetic. now I love that news other then I don't beleive it. she does have all the signs some days and then none for days and then back to having them again. but when she has signs her blood sugar are high. I have told the ped all the signs I see from her and all i get is her a1c is fine and she does not have the antiboties. They have said that she may be pre-diabetic and that might account for this but my understanding is pre-diabetes is for t2 only and she is 3 and 30lbs not type 2.

I would also be concerned that they are not trying to rule anything else out.

In addition, declaring fasting blood sugar levels above 126 mg/dl (7.0 mmol/l) to be diabetes reflects data that indicates that the risk of microvascular complications from high blood sugar levels increases significantly around 126 mg/dl. The Committee hopes that the new diagnostic guidelines will bring up to two million Americans with diabetes into the health care system for treatment before they develop complications
