Brand new here, and amazed already by some of the things I've read in the last day. My 18 month old grandson was dx'd 10 days ago. We've just started to come out of the fog, and seeing the support offered on this site has been wonderful. As a very-involved grandparent, I have been particularly touched by some of the stories shared around these forums about grandparents.

We have been very fortunate so far to have some of the best doctors I have ever seen handling his case. They were remarkable in talking all of the family through the first couple days (while in ICU). My daughter and SIL have been wonderful in how they have handled things so far, and my wife and I are anxious to help them as they adapt.

Looking forward to being a part of this extended family.

Lance

Welcome Lance!

Suggest you get in touch with EmmasPapa who is a shining example of the involved grandparent that we all want for our kids. In finding your way here, I get the idea that you are very much in the same mold.

Welcome! but I'm so sorry about your grandson's diagnosis. He is so lucky to have such an interested g'pa and net savvy! You will learn so much and have such a wealth of info and tips from this site to help your grandson's parents adjust and help him have "normal" grandparent time away from home. Many grandparents just dont seem think they are up to the challenge and that child misses out.

Picked up my little angel this afternoon from his Mom for a couple hours, and took him out to visit his great g-parents. He (and they) had a great time. http://img26.exs.cx/img26/2245/thumbsup8de.gif

Welcome aboard Lance,
Hello, Shortly after London's dx i found cwd and it has helped me in so many ways. Sure sounds like you love your grandson very much. Zane and London are very close in age, they are both toddlers and it so amazing watching them learn and grow. Enjoy and cherish everyday.

Hi Lance, Welcome to CWD. It's great to see the grandparents so involved!! My dad has been very involved in our son's D care since day 1 and I can't tell you how much that has meant to my husband and I. I am sure you're going to be a huge help to your daughter and SIL. I commend you for taking such an active roll as to find us on CWD. It's tough on all of us when our kids are diagnosed (especially as young as our Max and your little Zane). I'm glad they have your support. Grampy's rock!!
