I just got off the phone with our ped endo. He said that we could put Novolog in the pump for the trial; we will still be giving Lantus like usual. There will be no basal running on the pump. Instead of saline and giving her injections, she can bolus Novolog from the pump for the carbs. We are going to try this with both Animas and Cozmo.
Our ped endo *really* likes the Omnipod. He thinks it would be a great option for kids. He thinks the size is just fine for smaller kids. It's just not available beyond the eastern seaboard; so our area won't see it for a while.
Now, to get an Emla prescription filled for the trials...

My son is 3 and I am thinking of the pump. We give him the same insulin as your childre and lately he has bee out of control. I am not looking for a quick fix, but I just wanted to know if the pump made controlling this easier.
Thanks

Hi, :D Welcome! This a great forum for support and information. There are many young children who use insulin pumps on this board. Reading the posts on this board helped our family to take steps to start pumping.
We aren't pumping yet. I feel there are many benefits to pumping with a younger child. The reason we decided to pump was because we could have a true 24 hour basal, we could give insulin boluses in much smaller amounts, we can adjust basal insulin for different activities....and I just think that it would be more kid-friendly for my daughter (other than getting an injection of Novolog to cover carbs whenever she eats). For us, I already test Livia's blood sugar around 10 times/day. We count carbs. I test at 2-3 am. So, we are doing a lot of the "work" that goes with pumping. I do hope the control is easier....I think it will be. :cwds:
