View Full Version : Why couldn't it have been a baby kitten?

Noooooo we can't find baby kittens like normal people  Sooo I go out to the garage to get the car seat for Bella since she is staying with her Nana tonight. Mackenzie comes to get her tv out of the car and all of a sudden she starts screaming! I stop and try to get out of her what the problem is and she is sobbing "you stepped on it you stepped on it" "what what did I step on" "the baby mouse, you killed it" Awww crud :( But of coarse there couldn't have just been one baby mouse, there was another one 2 feet in front of me. So now it is time for Mackenzie to learn a nice life lesson.

Dang I hate mice!!! Lucky for that little mouse that I have a soft spot for any baby animal. So now we are feeding a baby MOUSE every 2 hours. Lucky for that mouse, I have a can of soy formula as a back up for one of the day care kids.

Mackenzie took it with her to Nana's house so I didn't get a picture but it's eyes are still closed and it cannot walk yet. It did eat out of the syringe very easily so we will see. I really really hate mice too

Be glad it was a baby mouse, trust me. Kittens make a mess when they are squished in the garage....one of our momma cats decided to move her babies into the garage one time and, long story short, i ran over one with the Jeep! Crap. Now I gotta scrape kitten up off the garage floor. Haley decided we have to have a proper burial . So I bury kitty while Haley runs around the yard picking flowers. CJ is standing there with me while Haley is sobbing and puts the flowers on the kitty grave, looks at me and CJ, still sobbing, and says, "Well, isn't anybody going to say anything?" It was so hard for me and CJ to keep a straight face.

I think we should be thankful that we did not find baby skunks  Can you even imagine what our houses would smell like if we had found baby skunks?

That's the only thing we don't have close to the house. A while back we had a family of raccoons that were pretty cute.

ETA: I wouldn't mind the opossums (sp?) so much if they weren't so darn ugly!

what is with the animals???

Grace caught a tiny tree frog yesterday at my dad's. My step-mom gave her a jar for it and now it's sitting on the kitchen table with a fly in the jar, which it won't eat.

Anyone know what to feed a tree frog?

We've had lots of pet rodents, I love them. Mice are easy, though I'm not sure how mellow a wild one will be, even raised from a baby. Hope you got a girl (boys are kinda smelly)!

Iana, don't ask how I know this  but you need fruit flies. Put some banana or apple in the bottom and set it outside, they eventually will come

oh there's plenty of them in the house already... but how would I keep the frog from getting out? it's so little and climbs great... haven't seen it on the bottom of the jar yet, always on the side!

Poke holes in the lid just large enough to let the flies in but keep the frog from getting out. We used a piece of an old screen window to cover ours. Be ready though, if he starts eating you may have to keep the fruit flies in the house through the winter  The girl's lived for a full year

If you need "tips" on how to build an aquarium terrarium LMK, we had quite the little science project going there for that year LOL

Hi Everyone,
Okay someone mentioned a baby skunk here. I have to tell you baby skunks don't really stink. Their scent glands don't come in for a bit. We have a friend who breads and sells pet skunks. My uncle helps him remove the scent glands from the babies so he can sell them. I promise to post a picture of the "Vinnie" when he arrives here. We are getting a baby skunk. This friend found one on the way to NY state and he fed it till they got it back to home.

I found a stag beetle on the back porch tonight. HE is huge!! I did not even realize that they were native to our area. I spent quite a bit of time doing research on line about them. I have it in a cup and will take it to the family reunion tomorrow and then let him go.

My brother had a skunk for a pet when we were kids. His name was Mr. Oscar (??? Where he got that name I have no idea!!)!! When he was a baby he didn't stink, but as he grew up, WHEW!! My Dad had him descented and we actually had him for a long time. He would run around in the house and everything!! Weird now that I think about it!!

My Aunt also had an opossum for a pet when she was a teenager. It was a weird little thing!! It would hang on her finger and fall asleep!!
