I just took my 2 year old son to his 3rd doctor appointment yesterday. The last visit went remarkably well. All his blood sugar numbers were good and his blood test came back good with a negative to celiac.
But this time the test came back inconclusive. Now I'm worried. I have to take him to get a gastro.... I forget the long name, but where they will put a tube down his throat while he's under.
He doesn't have any symptoms of the desease. But the doctor is concerned because of the test and his weight. But he and his twin brother are ex 26 week preemies, and my other son is actually slightly skinnier than my diabetic son. They have always just been small. He has a great appetite, in fact they just upped his carb intake.
Can anybody give me some advice about celiac desease? Someone with a child who has it.

My daughter was dx in Jan. for celiac. Her test results came back positive and we had the endoscope to confirm. The endoscope procedure takes less than 45 min. I think it took longer for them to prep her than the procedure itself. My daughter was also a premie and has always been under the 50th %. My daughter never had symptoms and we would not have known without the diabetes dx. Being under weight is a symptom along with over 300 others. At least with him having the endoscope you will know for sure. If it turns out to be celiac, you will just have to change his diet. It is hard at first but it does get easier. There are a lot of people here who can help and listen. Please let us know how things turn out.

Lots of our children have it, unfortunately. "Inconclusive" doesn't say a lot. I would want to know how high the number was, and I am sure the gastro will consider that before performing an endoscopy. And just because they have antibodies doesn't mean they have celiac.

If he does have celiac, it isn't the end of the world, just a change in diet. It will seem overwhelming at first but will get easier and become a way of life.

i appreciate the quick replies. Like I tell my worry-wort (I hate that phrase) husband of mine, we went through the hardest part with his being diagnosed diabetic, so if he has celiac too, it's just more of an adjustment.
Being a mother definatly is a never ending adventure. And I still think I'm the luckiest mom. ;)
