I posted a couple of weeks ago that Shannon had her month CDE appointment and her A1c, which we have worked REALLY hard to get down, dropped substantially and we finally got approved for the pump. But they had been monitoring her growth (or rather lack of) for the last 2 years and felt they really had to do some more intensive testing. She goes for the first one Monday which is a brain MRI. She can have anything to eat after midnight and she has to be there at 7:45 for a 9:00 appt. If she goes low she can have clear carb liquids, apple juice, 7UP, Gatorade, so all should be ok there. The reason she has to fast is that if the child cannot stay still for the MRI, which should last about 45 minutes, they have to sedate them. They decided to make the appointment as if this were going to happen just in case she can't. I feel pretty certain she will not be able to do it and am leaning towards just telling them to go ahead and sedate her up front and not even try. She takes meds for ADHD and even so, has a hard time just sitting still in a chair when she is reading. Even though I know that is probably the way to go and the best way to do it, I don't feel too good about having her put out. I know children have to have this done often for many different procedures, but it just feels like "one more thing". :( Then Thursday it's back to the hospital for a 2 hour blood test which is fasting also. I know how much I hate to have a fasting blood test - it just seems like that is the day that I can't live without my coffee with 1/2 & 1/2, and I've got her scheduled twice in one week to fast! I just want the tests done quickly to see what has to happen (if anything). They seem to think that if there is a problem with the growth hormone, it may have something to do with unexplained high BS. If there was a solution to that little problem, I guess I would be pretty happy! Thanks for giving me an opportunity to vent!

No advice on whether to have her put out up front or not, but wanted to let you know that I'm thinking of you. When Kaylee had her endoscopy in May, she was out for about 15-20minutes, its hard anytime you have to put your kids out for any reason/length of time.. I hope all goes smoothly, with all the tests, and you don't have any troubles with lows.. update us when you can:)

I just wanted to say - good luck tomorrow. Does she have to stay still the entire time, or is it for a few minutes then break, then a few minutes, then a break????

I think I would try without, but you know your child the best! I hope that this week flies by and is easier to do than to think about!

Good luck!!!

I can't remember the back story here, have they tested her for celiac? There can be growth issues with celiac. Just a thought.

I completely understand about "one more thing," Grace went through the rundown in the last year, beginning with repeated Strep infections, sleep study, possible allergies, EEG, and finally tonsilectomy and adenoidectomy in March.

I hope you can decide what is best for Shannon and stick with it. Only you know her well enough. :cwds:

Caleb had a brain MRI last Oct due too poor growth and diabetes insipidus they did put him to sleep for it lasted about 1 hour because the had to use a contrast. It was harder for me and my husband waiting than it was for Caleb. Sorry you have to go through this and you can find out if there a problem. Did they check her IGF level they have checked Caleb's several times because he is so small and no growing well. What will they 2 hour test show?
