When my son was dx'd with D in '05, it was 2 years after my brother was dx'd. My mom basically thought D was a bunch of baloney. She wanted nothing to do with checks or administering insulin either by needle or pump.
Fast forward to today. I had an appt to see my hematologist and left my kids in her care for over two hours. That is an eternity when your child is D and being watched by someone who understands little about proper care.
I gave his correction and bolus for snack before I left for my appt, and once I got into the patient room, I called to check in. Mom said Evan had an apple so I walked her through the steps on giving him a bolus for it. She actually did it! She was nervous, but the simple fact that she did it totally amazed me!
Only you people can understand the happiness I felt. It's like winning a battle. So, kudos to my mommy :D
