Hi, Im Lisa. Im a mom to a newly diagnosed type 1. My 12 year old daughter Erin was diagnosed 2 days ago and we got home from the hospital late last night. She is doing really well with it so far. She has been following all of our directions about what she cant eat without asking us and what she can. I feel like all of this is my fault and even though she has to go through all of this she doesnt complain which is so amazing to me. I hope to get to know you all better and I have a feeling that I will be needing you guys a lot in the future.

So sorry to hear of your DD diagnoses but you have come to the right place. CWD is very informational and great place to let your fears, anguish and concerns regarding D out. I do not know what I would do without it.
Your DD is very lovely and I am glad to here she is handling it well, that truly helps.
Hang in there and out here often.
ALL THE BEST :cwds::cwds::cwds::cwds:

Welcome! This place is great! My 4 yo DD has been diagnosed for about 5 weeks now. The people here have been wonderful!! Ask all the questions you have - someone is always patient and willing to help us newbies out! :)
Don't feel like it's your fault!! It's not. It's a disease that affects so many children. It is not something that you could have prevented.
I'm glad she's doing so well. Children are amazing, aren't they?!

Welcome. I actually just joined today as well but have been lurking for a few weeks. My daughter who is 8 yrs old was diagnosed May 13th. I agree with how amazing children are. The nurse that calls to check on us actually told us the reason she loves her job is b/c the kids are so tough and accepting and amazing. They bounce back so quickly. My daughter cried for about 10 mins but really kinda bucked up and took everything head on after that. She is honestly doing better with it than I am :p I look forward to getting to know you and everyone else here. I have learned that "venting" helps in the learning process. I plan to do tons!

Welcome Lisa. I am sorry to hear of Erin's diagnosis, but I am so glad you found the BEST place on the web for support! Come back often... if you have a question, the Parents of Children With Type 1 Diabetes forum is the busiest and will get you answers the quickest.
I was diagnosed at 11 yo, my daughter Grace at 5. Please don't feel like it is your fault, as other posters have said, there is NOTHING you could have done to prevent D from having intruded on your life.
Is Erin doing any of her care herself? My mom made sure I did all I could by myself, and pretty much from the start, I grabbed the reins and ran. I credit that action for making me a pretty-much responsible person with my D. I'm glad she's following your directions on food choices. Lots of times kids just need to be aware of the boundaries and they'll amaze us with their ability to comply!
