Tommorow night I am going out with some friends and I am leaving my boys with a babysitter. She has babysat Cade before but it was long before diagnosis. Is their anything in particular that she may need to know? Also I'm going to be gone during the time that they eat dinner and I dont know what I should do about her couting the carbs in dinner and bolusing for them or what she should do if Cade goes low or high and she panic's and doesnt know what to do. Any tips?

How fun getting away with friends:D
To help ease your mind about dinner time what if you already dished up their plates with the carb count written down for the babysitter. Then all she will have to do is warm it up and serve it! Then have written down the carb counts to what is on the plate. Hoping everything goes well!

I agree. That's what I would do. I also have a plan in place for lows. Here's what I wrote to my sitter yesterday: If BG is less than 60 she gets juice and snack, if 60-80 just the snack, etc. Then I made a list of free snacks for when she was high.
Have a great time!

can you be reached by cell phone? When Em is out or even home with DH, she calls to tell me her BS and carbs she ate and together we figure correction and carbs....It certainly is important that the sitter has ER telephone numbers of friends neighbors etc and understands the symptoms and treatment of lows and low emergency. Is there somone who can check in on them?
Have a nice time!!

Well...what would you do in those situations? That's the info I would give the babysitter. Try to present it in a way that won't scare her up front, then maybe she won't panic later (although I'm sure they'll be fine!). :)
And I agree with having dinner already prepared and dished out to be reheated later. That way you'll know exactly what he's getting.

I am teaching a class next week abotu this. (asthma and diabetes, as well as celiac) and so I am also wanting to ask the same question of everyone. You can PM me, or post here. I will check it all week.
But I have some requests to go along with it.
This is to specifically train sitters, (young sitters) to learn to babysit kids with medical problems, so keeping it simple is ideal.
