We don't swim a lot but today is supposed to be hot and we are heading to a friends with a pool. Any tips??

Dont dive in shallow part of pool

try not to breath under water

Kick your legs and flap your arms if you cant touch bottom

if you take insulin to the pool remember to keep it cool

either shoot low to compensate for the carbs burned from unusual exercise
or count on the low side for snack injections.

testing is the sure way to see whats going on

be careful for "delayed lows" 2-4 hours after swimming

Keep all supplies cool, like in a cooler away from the ice.

Check hourly, be conservative in the insulin dosing when covering for snacks, you may not even have to cover at all based on how much energy is expended. We find that we don't need to cover snacks (unless it's very high carb) when swimming.

Beware of lows 2-4 hours later.

Bring plenty of juice for lows.

You forgot "Look before you leap" and "Always swim with a buddy!"
have gatorade next to the pool and drink throughout the day
test a lot as with anything new or unusual

We give Connor 15 grams of uncovered carbs (whole wheat Goldfish) every time there is a break at the pool. This avoids the lows. He also drinks plenty of water, and I check his blood sugar often. Have fun!

forgot about that one...Sunburn (pain) raises Alex's BG, makes it hard for a couple of days to manage

The SPF 50 is already on LOL. The kids and I are very fair skinned. Thanks for the other tips!

Since it looks like you guys are on shots I'd say don't worry much. Just check often for lows because of all the activity. Also, make sure insulin is kept cool somewhere. Have fun!

Have fun!:D

When Liv went swimming on MDI, we tested off and had juice boxes ready to drink.

Be prepared for going either way. Most kids go low. Phillip goes high. I think from excitement.
Have fun. I'm jealous. It's winter here, freezing and pouring. I'd love to be in the sun right now.
