Hey everyone. I've been on here for a few months now, but I never really introduced myself to everyone.
Anyways, my name is Malyssa (yes, its Melissa, just spelt totally weird:rolleyes:;) LoL) I am 17 years old,
and I live near the Jersey Shore. I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on January 24, 2006, when I was
14 years old. I have never let diabetes slow me down, and I inform people about it every chance I get.
I'm not ashamed that I have diabetes, but more proud of myself that I do live with it, and don't let it get
me down. I will be a senior in high school this September, and after that, I hope to go to medical school
to become a pediatric endocrinologist. All of the people I have met on here have been extremely helpful,
and they are all so wonderful, and so strong. You are all an inspiration to me! I hope this gives you guys
a glimpse into who I am. :) Thanks for reading!

Hey. It's nice to hear from someone my own age. Two years went by extremely fast. It feels like I have had diabetes for my entire life, lol. I think your career choices are awesome. Both are helping people, so either way you decide to go, you win. :) And thanks...I think that when you have diabetes, you kinda have to have a positive outlook. If you don't, it makes things so much more difficult to deal with. Hope to hear from you again soon! :)

Welcome Malyssa! It's great to have you around CWD. Hope you post often.

How cool you want to go into endocrinology - you would bring an awesome perspective! :cwds::cwds:

Hi Malyssa, I have been Type 1 for 62 years. I was diagnosed in 1945 when I was 6. I am very healthy. I am pleased to hear that you are pumping. I am pumping with the MM 522. If you have good control with your Omnipod and maintain that control then you have a much better chance of living a long, healthy life without serious complications. Good luck to you!

Richard

Hey. Thank you. Yeah, I really want to help children with diabetes someday...I can't relate with my endo at all, and it makes it extremely difficult to believe what she says, or for her to "get it". :( So, my hopes are that I will be able to relate to children that have diabetes, and help them as much as possible. I can't think of a better job than a job helping people, and helping them deal with such a pain in the butt disease! :) Thanks again, and nice to meet you!

You are quite the inspiration to me!! I think that you are an amazing person, and very strong as well! I try my best to maintain good control, but it does get really hard sometimes. Thank you very much, and continue your wonderful job taking care of yourself! :)

Hi Malyssa...My Jersey buddy :) Are you enjoying your summer? What are you up too?

Hey! :) Summer...Well, I started my job on the beach, but it didnt work out too well. My insulin went bad, and I ran high all day. And now I have some crazy sunburn, even though I put sunscreen on three times that day. Anyways, the endo on call the other night told me not to keep the job, so I had to give it up, even though I really liked it. :( So now I'm looking for another job, so I can buy a car, and pay the insurance. Other than that though, everythings good. I'm loving the warm weather, and swimming in the pool everyday. And I just got the Cozmo pump approved, and I should be all hooked up by the end of this week! :D I love pumping, lol.

How about you guys? Are you enjoying the summer? Anything new?
