How many times do you check your blood sugar a day? I'm on a pump so I test about 5 or 6 times a day, but I've heard of some teens who only check once or twice a day! I wouldn't recommend that though, think of all the numbers you'd be missing that way.

Hi,

My son is 14 and also on a pump and he tests anywhere from 4 to 10 times, depending on how the day unfolds. If it's a standard day and no funny numbers, then maybe only 4. That's rare though. Let's face it, most days there's phys ed or a long walk home or an unexpected high to correct or a late night... More often, like you, it's about 6.

Sometimes as few as three. Usually four or five. Yesterday 15.

On most days, I do about 290 tests per day. I'm so dedicated, I even test in my sleep!

( I cheat, I've got a Dexcom CGMS ;) )

yeah i test anywhere from 6-12 times a day. Usually its more around 6-8 but there have been many times where i've had to check up to 12 times.

On a normal day, I only test 4 times. I'm not on a pump and using Regular and NPH, and they don't have me correcting highs yet. So I check before all meals and before bed. If I'm feeling low, or I have to do a 2 a.m. check, I'd do more, of course.

I usually test every two hours while awake. I only test in the middle of the night if there are issues or I had to take insulin before I went to bed. I have to prove to my doctor that I am taking this seriously so I have an alarm set to go off to remind me. Then hopefully I can win over her favor. (I was really bad before.)

Hi, I'm not a teen (I'm 23) - diagnosed end of September last year.
I check 4-6 times a day usually. Sometimes more if my bsl haven't been controlled i.e if I'm having lows, highs, and check more often when I have high bsl + ketones. Sometimes I might check only 2 or 3 times a day if my bsl have been in good for a while. I take lantus and novorapid btw & I'm type 1...

Man, I can't believe I used to only test 4-5 times per day. I've been having big problems with hypos, I think I now average 8-10 tests per day.

ive always averaged about 8 - 10 per day...dunno why...probably becuase my parents told me stories about patients that they took care of in the hospital that didnt take care of themselves, and are now blind, missing limbs, etc...

In a normal day I will test at least 8 times a day.
Then if my blood sugar goes to high or to low I have to test a lot more!

I'm on the MM 715 pump and I usually test 8-15 times a day. That number will be lowering in the near future because I'm getting a CGMS in 2-3 weeks.
